In another system I built with a Radeon 9000, it did the exact same thing. I just kept the drivers at an older version. All the lady uses it for is email, internet, and playing Bejeweled. No reason to update.

My 9200 seems to work with the new drivers just fine.

I'm currently using modded 4.8 drivers on my mobility 9000, seems to work ok. No better, no worse than the older drivers though. The 4.9 & 4.10 drivers disable direct3d though, just waiting for a fix for that :-)

Hey, not sure if that's what you mean but I got the same problem recently or at least similar; there was a huge green triangle in the bottom right corner of any video played in most players (except vlc of course, which is the second coming) - it started annoying me for some WMV files which I could only play in WMP.
Decreasing the hardware acceleration slider, pressing apply and then putting it back up all the way was enough to fix the bug !
Hope this helps.
