I scaned my computer and found out that it had an assload of worms. Cleaned them all out. Got Zone Alarm and have that running. But not too long ago, a screen poped up and said AVG found another worm. Didn't get many details on it because it closed quickly, and a full scan brought up nothing so I dunno what's up.

Should a firewall be good enough protection from all these fucking worms? They mess up my computer and it pisses me off.

I got spybot and it has problems reading win.ini. Whatever I do I can't get this clean. I can't use regedit because fucking ntsysman.exe shuts it down. I wish I could beat the shit out of whoever created that ntsysman bullshit.

I'm just going to re-format this motherfucker and start fresh. Time to back-up all my sheit.

Theoretically, yes. However, there is a school of thought that says that a software firewall isn't a real firewall, since it allows the unwanted traffic into your computer before blocking it, whereas a hardware firewall stops it before it touches your computer (kinda like stopping a burglar on your front porch, instead of keeping him off your property in the first place).

Also, I've heard some unflattering things about ZA lately, so there's that, too (not that I can recommend a better one).

I use dial-up, so I can't really have hardware firewall with a router.

So there are not any good alternatives to Zone Alarm?

Ah. Yes. That would be difficult.

> So there are not any good alternatives to Zone Alarm?

Dunno. I run dial-up myself, and I never even bothered with a firewall until MS installed one for me, so I never really looked into it. I figure that at 3K/s, if I notice my connection going nuts, I can just disconnect before any real damage can happen.

You do know that ntsysman is a worm right? This one: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.donk.s.html

"Terminates antivirus processes and prevents access to security related Web sites."
