I've always used Newsbin Pro, but it slows way down if it d/l's a lot of headers (not sucking much cpu time, just lights up the hdd led like a christmas tree even tho the hdd makes little/no noise). Anyone else got any good suggestions of what to use, what's best?

I used GrabIt and it totally sucked for large header groups, 1 to 2 million headers it would take forever to process. NewsLeecher is pretty good but not free. It processes all of the headers on the fly.

I haven't played around with many different programs, but Xnews seems good to me.
