SubjectSudden MPEG degradation new Reply to this message

All of the sudden just today I notice that ALL my MPEG movies on my PC play like crap, the color quality looks crappy as hell and everything looks bright like there's a nuclear explosion occuring behind the image. MOV files arent affected, (not sure about AVI). And the MPEGs do the same being played on either WMP or PowerDVD. I just caught this today, the only thing Ive done today is update Windows XP with a few security updates and update my GeForce FX 5700 to the new drivers (77.72). Could the new driver be the problem or is it something else? Ive tried making a screenshot but the video image doesnt paste when I try to copy it, only the movie player with a blank display. Anyone here seen or heard of this before?

sounds like an overlay issue, it could be a buggy driver. some drivers allow you to specify different brightness/contrast/etc for overlays, they may be misconfigured.

Thanks, I rolled back the driver and they play fine now. Since I dont have any problems Im not even gonna bother with the new drivers.

77.72 drivers have an overlay bug wich could be resolved doing this :

solution 1 ) nvidia display settings --> Overlay -> Advanced mode -> Apply -> OK

solution 2 ) nvidia display settings --> All -> Standard mode -> Restore defaults -> OK

hmm, solution 1 corrected the issue however it needs to be redone after every reboot =/
