My proposition? We need a Retrogames.com SETI@home team! It's a free little 7 MB program that runs as a screen saver, has NO spyware, and is fun to watch =P. If you are overclocking your PC this is a great program to check for stability. Should it error out alot chances are you need to peel back a few mhz.

Let's be the first emulation site to join SETI! What do you get from it? Glory, pride, and a happy computer! Maybe we will discover some aliens! Who knows! Let's spread our influence and compete with major teams!

Sadly I can see what would happen if Retrogames (cunt arse actually) made contact.

Day 1: Contact made, snowball sends a link

Day 2: UFO busted and trys bluejay showing good will fixes it, Unfrotuatly I sneek on board along with satsu, death knight, cerial killer etc.

Day 3: Two words Rosewell NM. Plane Wrecker gets shit faced crashes UFO thingy satusu barfs all over the place death knight uses UFO death ray on bruno in brazil vaproising a small town.

Day 4: The ailen vistors are never heard from again :)

In all seriousness though I'll probally download the prog as it is pretty cool to watch. Plus I want to be there during RG first contact day :)

Well, most... No [H]ard|OCP, they're doing Folding@Home.

Better yet, use the WinNT commandline client (if you're using Win98 or better, or Win95 with Winsock 2). You'll lose the pretty screensaver, but you'll generally shave about 10% off your time, which is significant when your FPU consists of 15 Benedictine monks. You can get a lot of speed tips here (but don't join them, you fuckin' traitors!).

This Universe never did make sense; I suspect that it was built on government contract.

Seti Spy is a good entertainment replacement for the CPU hogging screen saver.

Seti Driver and Seti Queue allows you to cache work units

I would, but all the open lab computers here at school already have it crunching for someone in CCIT, and the ones that aren't have issues installing it (damn NT4 anyway).

Currently 1 Tbird 1200 @ 1266 & 1 Tbird 900 @ 945 and a K6-2 333

Before switching to Tbirds I had previously used a K6-2 550 and a K6-2 500 @ 400 and the K6-2 333 for crunching the numbers.

The K6-2 333 is my linux router box and does about 1 wu a day.

The K6-2 550 will make it back on line if I ever get my home/office renovation finished, the other K6-2 is now used for workbench duty.

Heya. I just joined the SETI@Home team. I am registered with the team, but for some reason, my Name isn't being displayed on the team's page. It shows all my statistics, but my name appears as a blank. In other words, on the Retrogames SETI@Home page, I appear as:

It's no big deal or anything, but if anyone knows what the problem might be, please let me know. Thanks a lot.

Hmm, I'll have to think about setting up my 2nd PC for that. (Since it will contribute very few WU to SETI@home anyway.)

Also, if you want to chew out work units faster (i.e. every 9 or so hours), it's better to use the command line version (DOS version) then the WIN32 version. Even with my pathetic 233MHz, I can put out a work unit every 8-9 hours. With my 933MHz, I put out one every 6½-7 hours when all is well with the system. Plus there is a SETI "Frontend" that allows you to see how much you have processed and to set up your units. At present, I have 1 I work on with 9 waiting to be worked on.
