SubjectProblems with Naomi 2: Input Coins does not reacts new Reply to this message

Hi all,

I've just bought a complete Naomi 2 system (gd-rom, audio amplifier, Jamma I/O board) to play Virtua Striker 3, and I've plugged it to my Jamma cabinet.

The system boot up ok and the game starts in attract mode, but when I try to insert a coin the credit doesn't get "heard" by the system.

I've entered the Test mode and performed all of the ram/dimm tests and they completed w/o any errors.
However I've noticed a strange thing in the JVS-Input screen: pressing all of the buttons and joysticks I can toggle the corresponding bits of the bit masks from zeros to ones; but the coin doors does not reacts.
The manual says that inserting coins in the coin doors should increment the coin counters (SLOT1 and SLOT2) displayed on screen, but they stay both still at 8000.
What does this means? Why the number displayed does not start from 0000? Is my board damaged in a way or it is just a matter of configuration?

Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions you can give me.

Taking a look at some other Naomi game manuals I've found a similar thing in ClubKART (page 14).
As you can see while SLOT1 show 0000, SLOT2 show 8000. Now, taking a closer look at the cabinet pictures, it seems that this cabinet does not have a Coin Door 2, so this makes me thinking that the number 8000 means SLOTx disabled.
Can someone confirm or deny this supposition? And then tell me how to change state from 8000 to 0000?

Thank you a lot,

Ok. I've just sent them an e-mail. I hope they will take it under cosideration.

P.S.
Rummaging with Google I've found this site: (umh... don't know if I can report it here. If not please let me know as soon as you can and I'll remove it, or feel free to remove the link by yourself if you can. Thank you) http://www.startechjournal.com
While inspecting the publicly downloadable index (Index1to23.pdf) I have found an article that may, or may not, contain an answer to the problem I'm experiencing: "Sega Naomi Crediting Problems Solution"
To download that issue they want to be payed. It is a commercial magazine for coin-operators so that's ok by me if they want to be payed for it. Unfortunately I'm not a coin-operator but just a last-minute hobbist. So I ask, is there anybody out there who can have access to that magazine and inspect throughout the above-mentioned article?
Endless thanks.

SubjectCoin Meters makes the differences? new Reply to this message

Hello again,

Maybe I found something...
On page 4 of Virtua Striker 3 Kit Manual (http://www.segaarcade.com/pdfs/virtuastriker3/vs3-kit-manual.pdf) there is the following writing:

"You MUST USE THE COIN METER SUPPLIED WITH YOUR KIT to assure proper Coin acceptance.
A minimum 18 Gauge wire should be used from the Coin Meter 1 output line on your JAMMA Harness.
The 5vdc ( Yellow ) wire found in the wiring bag of your kit MUST BE USED for the supply voltage to the meter."

I don't have any Coin Meters in my cabinet. May it be this the root of all of my input coin problems with Virtua Striker 3? If so, is there a way to circumvent the coin meters (I don't understand how the system could know about the presence/absence of these devices), or can you please point me to a site where I can buy a compatible one?

Many thanks for your help

A huge thank you to Stekka51 and Kold666 of the "Arcade Italia" forum.

You can put a 100ohms resistor in place of the coin counter to the naomi i/o
