SubjectMega Play and System Multi 32 new Reply to this message

Hi everyone! First post here!

I recently bought a bundle of Jamma boards, with those came a MegaPlay with 3 carts and a System Multi 32(huge beast!).

Can anyone give me any aditional information or manuals for these PCB's?
The MegaPlay has about 9 sets of conectors which I have no idea what they are for!
The MegaTech used a 2nd monitor, does the MegaPlay also use one?

The MegaPlay board worked fine when I first tried it but after I swaped the cart order it stopped working! It powers on but doesnt boot the game, the screen just stays black.
If I remove all carts I get to some sort of BIOS screen which says 'insert cart'... Any ideas?

About the System Multi 32, can I run it with just one Jamma harness conected or do I need to connect both at once for it to work?
Also, what are those optical terminals and that weird port between the jamma harnesses for?

I hope you guys can help me out...

That was the first thing I did, both the slots and carts are clean, they are MegaPlay carts.
Because I didnt have the select button wired and I wanted to change game I powered off the board and swapped the order of the carts.

It never worked again. Seems as it doesnt find the BIOS on the carts, however it goes to the internal 'insert cart' screen if no cart is inserted.
I tried removing the battery hoping that it could clear the internal memory and solve the problem but I had no such luck.

I remembered one thing, my setup doesnt have the -5v connected, anyway it worked before without the -5v so that shouldnt be the problem I guess...
-5v on the harness is normally used to power the audio amp, right?

Yes

You did turn it off before removing/inserting the carts the first time didnt you?
Clean the edge connectors with a non corrosive non grease cleaner.
Check the slots for dust etc...
Make sure the carts start in slot 1.
If that doesnt work, then you probably blew it up not having the -5v connected, it may use it to dump out the voltage when the systems powered down or something *shrug*, Im not sure exactly how they work...

Just one will work.

Controls, sound, led's and other custom cab bits.

Do you know where can I find the pin-out of the 2nd monitor conection?

Of course!

Done.

Also cleaned.

I tried every slot and every possible combination with the carts I got.

O_o omg... I hope not... I had already powered it on/off a couple off times before w/o problems, it just stopped working when I swapped carts.

Anywhere where I can find a manual of the PCB or cab with the conector pinouts?

Sorry for being such a pain! :)

No, thats not the case at all, only in extreme circumstances does that kind of damage occur, mostly it is invisible.

Sorry, no idea...

> Anywhere where I can find a manual of the PCB or cab with the conector pinouts?

You wont find PCB layouts anywhere, they're all confidential inside Sega. As for the outputs themselves, they're largely useless to all intents and purposes, if you dont have the original cabs then you're not going to get them to do anything.

Sorry for taking so long to reply.

About the MegaPlay, I already have a Megadrive/Genesis but thats not the point...
I would really love to get it working, it makes me mad when things stop working like this!

About the cabs, Im from Portugal, and here its hard enough getting Jamma boards, cabinets are even harder to find :(

Im running the boards through a supergun until I have the luck of finding a cabinet.

The Megaplay carts that I have are Tecmo World Cup, Sonic 2 and Golden Axe 2.

I have no idea about the Multi32 game, I havent tried it yet.
All the roms on the top PCB start with xPR-15xxx.
I guess tha code may correspond to the game title.

BTW, along with the bundle of PCB's I got I found a Gals Panic PCB! Seems to be dead also :( When I power it up only garbage appears on screen.

I would really like to try and fix some of these boards if possible, Ill only sell them if I really have no choice.

I never had any sort of accident with static, this seems as a kind of a myth, I never heard anyone getting their PCB's damaged because of something like this.
I once tested a 486 PC that a friend gave me and it worked fine, only later I found that the computer had been exposed to rain and the motherboard was soaking wet when powered it!
From personal experience I can say that PCB's are more resistant to static/dust/dirt/rust/etc that most people think.

Back to topic, theses PCB's I got came from an arcade operator, not from a collector, they were all stacked together (about 30 PCB's!) in a rust filled plastic container.
Most PCB's came with a nice layer of dust and some bent and/or broken capacitors because they were all stacked together.
Luckily the Sega PCB's were on top so they seemed ok.
The Multi32 even came on bubblewrap.

I had some bad luck before buying these PCB's, my NEOGEO MVS also stoped working suddenly!
So a few days after the MVS died I bought these PCB's, in this bundle there were 4 MVS units, just what I needed, but they were all dead as well x_x

About the slots, its usual for the slots of the NES stop working, most people had no choice but to buy a new NES or replace the slots.

I tried cleaning the Megaplay carts but not the slots, its worth a try.
