Has anyone attempted emulation of the System 573 yet? (I know Zinc does Sony and Namco's PSX-based hardware) If so, any pitfalls?

For the later Bemani titles, I would assume the difficulty is primarily that digital I/O board. To make matters worse, all of the other parts are usually easy to find cheaply except for that board, which is still in service and high demand.

Anyway, I'm interested in looking into this further as long as there aren't any other known major obstacles or protections.

They're all protected.

Thanks for the info, Six. Any ideas about the methods? I know they can use a flash card or a cartridge, but I don't have a system in hand yet to look at the addressing.

I'd like to look into the bootleg carts + games first.

I think it's important that this system be emulated. For one thing, most of the titles are new classics. For another, some versions have been declining rapidly by way of 'upgrades' which overwrite original factory data. Finally, "Turbo Outrun" -- need I say more? If people with access to the hardware don't make an attempt it will never happen.

The ZiNc guys are taking it easy on this stuff because these machines are still in service and hot money makers for operators and Konami. I've started working on the early Beatmania games since they're a System GX varient and that hardware is now discontinued, but even there we have to be careful.
