SubjectDaytona 2 machines linkable online? new Reply to this message

Greetings people! I have a question for those of you are familiar with Daytona USA 2's arcade machine....

I am seriously contemplating buying a sitdown deluxe machine, simply because I've always wanted one. But there is one issue I would like cleared about the cabinet.

I am sure you are aware that it has an ethernet port that allows owners to play with up to 40 other cabinet players online. Can you tell me a little bit about how this feature works? I knew about it for the longest time but actually forgot it was in there! I'll break up the questions starting here:

1)Can, for example, other Daytona 2 cab owners set up and configure their cabs to go online and race against other cab owners?

2)To your knowledge, would an arcade owner who has multiple Daytona machines at his location, allow me to hook up my cab from home, and join in games at his location via the internet for more competition?

3)What kind of connection(DSL, Cable, 56K, etc) is required and is there is an extra periheral I need to add to the cab?

I swear to God, I would willing to purchase a sitdown deluxe cabinet right now if it meant hooking up with other Daytona 2 cabs at either arcades, or private owners out there who're racing online everyday. Do you know any private owners who use their cabs to go online?

Anyway please take time to give me your opinions. Thanks and regards,

Julian

They use a fibre optic connection cab to cab, anything else is just for the online scoreboard or whatever, which doesnt work outside of Japan.

Six...I am utterly confused at this point. I have just received an emaail in response to this very issue from Darl Davidson of Sega Services. Here what it says:
The only linking capability of Daytona 2 are Fiber Optic Cables to link 8 machines in one location. No Ethernet link is available.
Sega has never Manufactured a game in this country with this option.

Darl Davidson
I don't understand. When the game first came out I read in *numerous* articles that Daytona USA 2 Power Edition had a feature that allows operators to uplink their machines to a PC and thus allowed up to 40 players to compete via the broadband connection.

Taken from the Killer List of Videogames:

"""""
"Each cabinet also has a broadband connection, which if used, can theoratically link up to 40 cabinets over the Internet"

http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7531&letter=D (under "Technical")

""""""""""
Taken from the official Gamefaq site:

"With the US Robotics Modem included with the Model 3 Type 2 Board, a Daytona 2 cabinet can be hooked up through preferrably a dedicated server through a backboned T3 Phone Line for Internet Gaming enabling up to 40 players maximum, 16 players Minimum to play at once! Also, you'll know who's better than who in each track with this new feature."

http://db.gamefaqs.com/coinop/arcade/file/daytona_usa_2_power_edition.txt
""""""""""

What gives?

Dont beleive everything (anything) you read in KLOV, its open for anyone to make additions to.

Broadband would not be fast enough to cope with the data rate needed for the machine, so wherever this came from its not true, I beleive, as I said before, the power edition had an online scoring system of some sort in Japan, but that would be the extent of it,

Thanks for the reply. I don't your knowledge of Sega arcade games, but do me a favor...when you get a chance please take a look at this thread and scroll down to what "It's In the Game" has to say...

http://ga.gamesquad.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47698

Also, you say it was a feature in the Japan. But take a look at the flyer. it states...

"Features a new internet tournament system(USA only).
Allows you to link up the Model 3 board to a PC and see who the number one ranked U.S. player is via the internet."

Hmm, the mystery continues...

Yes, its a scoreboard, nothing else, but none (or very very few) of the arcades used it.

Daytona USA 2 and Daytona USA 2 PE support upto 16 players linked, this is via the normal fibre optic cable.

There is no support for multiplayer online, the online part of PE refers to fastest times, where they keep the fastest times.

Intresting enough on the PE only, there is some sound samples that ask you to enter your social security number, also Date of birth.
