The magic buttons for both players freeze the game when pushed. All characters, both player and enemy, are still visible, they just don't move. What could be some possible causes of this, and how could I go about fixing it? thanks.

If you own the original PCB, probably the suicide battery is empty..? I so, then you will probably be better of buying another PCB..

Another possibility is a ROM failure..?
