------------------------------------ Unofficial NeoGeoCD version 0.40 FAQ by PaleWriter -------------------------------------------- Using Neo Geo CD Rips with NeoGeoCD Emulator -------------------------------------------- ----- SUBST ----- * Tested with DOS 6.2/6.22/7.0 (IE: win95/98) * The neogeo cd bios must be in the NeoGeoCD emu directory. (run strip.exe yet?) To Use SUBST with the rips: 1) Use a dos box. Edit neocd.cfg "# name of the keyboard scancode mapping file" and if needed "# CD-ROM drive definition". (change keyboard layout to your country/adjust cd drive to reflect your system example: z=25) * Error Message: "Could Not Open IPL.TXT" means that you need to adjust the virtual cd drive to reflect the location of the directory containing the rip. Edit neocd.cfg, #cd-rom drive definition has the wrong cd drive number. Other causes - Forget to unzip the rip, does the rip have an ipl.txt? * Keys not matching up correctly? Edit # name of the keyboard scancode mapping file. 2) Switch to the directory with the unzipped rip. Type Subst [drive letter assigned in # CD-ROM drive definition]: . * Example: Subst z: . Assigns your current directory to virtual drive z. (note the space bewteen : .) 3) Load Univbe if needed. (www.scitechsoft.com) * Error Message: "Video: Fatal - VBE 2.0 Not Available" means load a vesa driver. 4) Type neocd * Error Message: " CDAudio - Fatal: No CD in Drive!" means you must physically put a cd into the computer's lowest letter cdrom unit. First cdrom at f:? Then stick any cd in f: * After loading, g to start game, ~ to exit game, q to exit neocd program. ------ FAKECD ------ * Tested with DOS 6.2/6.22/7.0 (IE: win95/98) * The neogeo cd bios must be in the NeoGeoCD emu directory. (run strip.exe yet?) To Use Fakecd with the rips: 1) Exit win 95/98, use DOS. * If you have no luck with a dos BOX, then read #1 again. 2) At dos prompt type, edit neocd.cfg "# name of the keyboard scancode mapping file" (change keyboard layout to your country) If needed "# CD-ROM drive definition" (adjust cd drive to reflect your system example: z=25) * Error Message: "Could Not Open IPL.TXT" means that you need to adjust the virtual cd drive to reflect the location of the directory containing the rip. Edit neocd.cfg, #cd-rom drive definition has the wrong cd drive number. Other causes - Forget to unzip the rip, does the rip have an ipl.txt? * Keys not matching up correctly? Edit # name of the keyboard scancode mapping file. 3) Load Univbe if needed. (www.scitechsoft.com) * Error Message: "Video: Fatal - VBE 2.0 Not Available" means load a vesa driver. 4) Type fakecd [drive:\location of cd files] /l:first drive letter available (Example: use Z if you entered 25 in # CD-ROM drive definition) * Fakecd must be in the current directory or your path. 5) Type neocd * After load, g to start game, ~ to exit game, q to leave neocd and return to dos ---- q&a ---- Q: Where can I purchase NeoGeo CD's? a: www.snkusa.com Q: How can I use a joystick instead of the keyboard with NEOCD version 0.40? a: Grab a copy of JoyEmu 4.1, read the docs, and enjoy it. Q: What other programs or commands can be used to create virtual drives? a: "CD Copier Gamers` Edition 2.0" creates virtual drives on win 95/98 systems. If you have this 5 meg program at your disposal and dislike the dos command line, this would be your choice. "Cdemu2" is another mscdex emulator (like fakecd). This program will not run in win 95/98 dos or a dos box. You'll need dos 6.22 or lower for it to function. Q: Why use fakecd instead of subst? a: System doesn't have a cdplayer, a cd, subst refuses to work, or windows 95/98 crashes when neocd is executed. Q: What are NeoGeo CD Rips? a: All the files from a cd's gametrack in one zip. The music tracks are not included. The sfx are. Q: Are there any NeoGeo games available only on CD? a: Crossed Swords 2, Samuari Showdown RPG, & Zentrick are not available on carts. Dunk Dreams = Street Hoops, Thrash Rally = Rally Chase, RayGuy = Blues Journey. Q: Crossed Swords 2! Does it work? a: Yes and no. Crossed Swords 2 locks up after starting game play. This appears to be an emulation issue with NEOCD .40. Q: What's so special about NeoGeo CD titles? a: Aside from some minor changes in graphics, storylines, screens, and levels; the main advantages of the NeoGeo CD's are better than cart music quality and the cd's costing substantially less than the carts. Q: What can I do to get this superior CD music? a: NeoGeo CD's start around $25 usa dollars at www.snkusa.com ------ thepalewriter@yahoo.com
