The following is from an email from Scott (http://www.safestuff.com) -P- -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is to clear up a few issues regarding the controversy brewing over the Military Battlezone and Marble Madness II arcade game which I own. I'm not sure where you are getting your information, but you are printing outright lies and slander about me, which is completely unfair. I did have a conversation with a someone named, 'Moose' He wanted to know if I was interested in selling my games, and at what price I might consider a sale. I quoted some 'off the wall prices'. These prices were based on the fact that I DID NOT want to sell my games, and that it would take some outrageous offer to get me to part with them. The prices came about after answering about 150+ emails about the same topic. They were not serious prices, and they certainly were not a commitment to sell. I should have just said they were not for sale, but I think it was a hypothetical question, so I answered anyway( ie....'if you were to sell them, how much would you want for them?'). This person started a 'campaign' without my permission, without my approval, and without consulting me. Now after 4 months, he sends me some 'purchase agreement' and asks me a bunch of ridiculous questions about the games. Questions that can could have been answered by looking over my web page and reading all the information. He could have also checked on RGVAC, a newsgroups where Arcade Game Collectors congregate, about my credibility. It is clear that 'Moose' is not a collector and has almost no clue about the workings of a real arcade game. He has no clue about the Arcade Collecting Community, and has no idea what shows like California Extreme and Videotopia have to offer. To an arcade collector, he has 'zero credibility'. You have no clue who I am, what I contribute to the hobby, or what I have to offer. You can't seem to see past the fact that I don't want to sell my prized possessions. I'm not sure how many of your readers have 40+ Rare Arcade Games, thousands of parts to maintain these games, and a storage unit and garage crammed to the roof with arcade related materials. How many of your emulation buddies have over 2000 pounds or original documents, hand drawn sketches and rare original artwork they saved from being tossed in the dumpster? You have no clue as to what I have done to preserve what I have, and you have no idea what the benefit to emulation has been. You cannot judge me on what one person says. It's unfair and only one part of the story. I never promised to sell them, I never committed to sell them, and I certainly don't need the money. It has NEVER been about the money. I have been criticized for being 'greedy' by you and others. Guess what, I have not made a dime off these games, and I have acutually spent thousands to aquire them. I'm not greedy. I don't want to sell my games, PERIOD. I have had several firm, legitimate offers to purchase these machines-but I have NO INTEREST AT ALL in selling these. This is my hobby. These are my hard earned prizes for years of effort. I am not a game broker. I am a collector. I did not buy these games to make a profit on them. I choose to collect prototypes. Check with me in a year, all these same games will still be in my collection. Even though I have collected these games, the copyrights still belong to the company who designed and developed the games. I do not have the rights to distribute any of these games. I only have the right to use my machine and to make a backups for my personal use. I am not about to risk a lawsuit to please anyone. I do not wish to pay lawyers and judgments. I have already spent enough money gathering these games as it is. I make these games from my private collection available for the California Extreme shows and they are available for Videotopia when it reaches the West Coast. I could just lock them away in my storage unit, but I actually take these games out to public events and other arcade collectors are always welcome to come and play them. These games are not for sale, they have never been for sale, and IF they are e ver sold, they will go to a competent collector who can continue to maintain them. These games are not for amateurs. Attached below, you will find the questions I was asked. It clearly demonstrates a lack of knowledge on the subject at hand. These questions are insulting and pretty low grade. Games are supposed to be fun, but you guys have taken ALL the fun out of them. Scott www.safestuff.com
