On this, the 20th anniversary year of the release of Origin Systems' Ultima 6, it is with much pleasure that we announce the 1.0 release of Team Archon's Ultima 6 Project, for Dungeon Siege 1 (PC and Mac). Players will find a huge and exciting world waiting to be discovered:
    • Travel throughout the lands of Britannia, exploring deep, dark forests with bandits lying in wait, deserts and swamps teaming with monsters, and peaceful towns and villages filled with shops, old friends, and interesting people just waiting to give the player numerous and exciting quests to solve.
    • Explore deep and dangerous caves and caverns full of treasure and hidden surprises. Bring your breadcrumbs to mark your trail, or be prepared to be thoroughly and completely lost, with your remains left to be found by future explorers.
    • Sail the savage seas to explore remote islands, but be vigilant for there are sea monsters lying in wait for the careless traveler
    • Discover a hidden new world, far from Britannia.
    • Encounter strange and exotic races, including the mysterious Gargoyles.
    • Fight fearsome monsters, find pirate loot, solve a murder, and discover the truth behind the numerous attacks on Britannia’s towns.
    • Learn the commerce of the land for fun and profit.
    • Learn magical spells, search for magic reagents, and join guilds to gain special benefits.
    • Those players with proclivities to the dark side can follow an "evil path".
    • And, last, but not least, ferret out the hidden Easter eggs

  • D-Fend Reloaded v1.0 is out - D-Fend Reloaded 1.0 is a major update with many new features. Now D-Fend Reloaded will assist you when adding a game that needs to be installed before it can be used. By using the new cheats data base or the address search function you can get some little advantage in many games if you want to. Now you can also make bootable hard disk images from any profile with a single click. Additionally D-Fend Reloaded 1.0 contains the new DOSBox 0.74 version and has the right default values for this version. Of course version 1.0 also fixes all known bugs. A complete list of all changes can be found in the changelog file. All available versions can be downloaded from the download page. - TheInformer

  • LOSE/LOSE, a 'game' to avoid - From Raymond.cc - "I’m not sure if anyone has heard of this “game” or not. Going by the name of ‘Lose/Lose‘, and classified as a virus by Symantec, it is quite unique in terms of an art game. It is modeled after Space Invaders but it’s one of the few games that I will recommend that you stay away from at all costs. This is because, if you couldn’t tell, the title is extremely suiting: you can not win this game, no matter what you do. Lose/Lose is a video-game with real-life consequences. Each alien in the game is created based on a random file on the player’s computer. If the player kills the alien, the file it is based on is deleted." - TheInformer

    • Storage: fixed a potential guest disk corruption with growing images (3.2.0 regression)

  • Riiiiiise from your grave! MEKA 0.73 is shiny and available - A few of the changes are:
    • The license for data now matches the source code license, making MEKA a fully free (as in freedom) software.
    • New mappers were added to support a wider range of Korean games.
    • Debugger got a few fixes and new RMAP command ("reverse map") which allow to retrieve back, eg, a ROM address given an address in CPU space. The SYM @addr command allows to find a symbol given an address.
    • Fixed SC-3000 keyboard, improved capture options, helpers for creating game maps, fixed Light Phaser cursor, etc.
    • And generally other tweaks, fixes and lots of updates to the MEKA database.
For a list of the rest of the changes, go here.

  • Duke Nukem 3D spotlight - I know this isn't 'retro gaming' (as in Robotron, Pacman, etc) but since Duke Nukem 3D is now 14 or so years old it's retrogaming of a sort. This site has several nice Duke 3D total conversions.

  • An unofficial build of NEStopia has been released here. From the release notes:

This is an unofficial maintenance release I created to fix an annoying joystick lag issue. This lag was particularly bad when VSync was enabled. The original Nestopia author (Martin Freij) appears to have abandoned the official Nestopia project on SourceForge and has not responded to any of my e-mails, so I am left with no choice but to provide this unofficial release as a public service to the emulation community.
