This is in response to the "new" policy here at retrogames which is now being enforced. I may have missed a couple sites, and there may be other links in other places at Retrogames. If you find any please bring them to my attention so that I may remove them. :/ - chris

  • Posts Deleted - Due to a misunderstaing, I deleted some posts by one of our busy news posters yesterday. This was a mistake I made out of anger, and I should not have done this. I want to make a public apology to everyone here for this action. It has also been brought to my attention that there are to be no more links to any ROM downloading sites at retrogames, this policy has apparently been in place for about a year now, however I was not aware of any such policy until today. Anyway, I hope my sincere apology will be accepted by the retrogames news posting staff. - chris

  • xmame/xmess-0.78.1 - Lawrence Gold writes: Sorry it took so long, but I'm pleased to announce the release of xmame/xmess-0.78.1. Note that this is missing a few things, such as the shared library support, which I've yet to look over, and the light gun patch from Joe. However, I'm using a more modern email client now, so I'm better able to keep track of such things. ;-)

You can grab a patch against 0.77.1 from here, and a full tarball from here.

I'm still pondering an AdvanceMAME-like release, but I haven't decided anything for sure yet.

    Changes since 0.77.1:
    • Everything from MAME 0.78 and MESS 0.78.
    • You can now make tools without first having to make osdepend.
    • Fixed a couple of minor problems with src/unix/Makefile and src/unix/unix.mak. (Adam Di Carlo)
    • Rearranged a bit of code to allow the MESS tools to build.
    • Added JOY_SDL to the makefile so that the SDL joystick plugin canbe enabled for non-SDL targets. The SDL target still enables the plugin without requiring JOY_SDL to be set.
    • The ALSA module now builds against ALSA 1.0. Fixes Bug 501.
    • Changed the abbreviation of -pause_brightness to -pbrt to prevent a conflict with -playback.
    • Added double buffering, enabled via -doublebuf, to the SDL target. (Thomas Jarosch)
    • Deprecated the SDL target's -modenumber in favor of -vidmode_w and -vidmode_h. (Thomas Jarosch)
    • Updated the included zlib library to 1.2.1, which should be faster than 1.1.4.
    • Fixed an infrequent spurious error reported by zlib 1.2.1. (Mark Adler)
    • OpenVMS support should be close now. (Robert Alan Byer)
    • Changed the man path to $(PREFIX)/man/man6, which is more FHS-compliant according to Andre Majorel.
    - chris

I have to point out that I'd avoid any non-official version of MAME that was based on 0.78u2 and even 0.78u3, as they're only meant as test versions (and dont really include any new games) and we're not going to take bugs reported on derivitive builds... - sixtoe

It is important you do a clean build since most files have been changed including many core files, it is also important that this build gets tested, everything *should* function the same way as in u1, if any games / drivers don't behave as they did in u1 please let us know so we can fix the problems as soon as possible"

There is plenty of documentation not only for the emulator itself, but also for the Pacman hardware that is being emulated. I think this will provide the interested reader all of the information needed to understand how such an emulator works, and also a good starting point to do some experiments of his or her own"

  • ClrMAME Pro 3.20 - Roman updated ClrMAME Pro as follows:

misc: added support for nodumps in biossets (mame 78u1 psarc95 issue). (since psarc95 is a 'one nodump only' set, nodump-handling won't create it. Add it manually or use fixmissing/rebuilder)

misc: backup's _unknown folder will be automatically used for fixmissing (though it may only find stuff in there when the 'fixmissing scans all files' option is used. That's not recommended, since it's too slow. Searching _unknown will be useful when scanning different dats or different MAME versions though.)

misc: export datfile exports chd-sha1 information, too
    misc: changed some gui texts

fixed: handle errors for files > 2GB (zipfiles are still limited to 2 GB though...will change that when I got some more time).
