  • Random Stuff - Just a couple of fun things I found on the MAME Fun/Fluff board... First off, Cave shooter fans must see this tribute page! Some really good info, especially about Dangun Feveron - you can be the cat from "Uo Poko", which is very interesting to me for no logical or sane reason. And next, "Pong" has been taken to the next level of videogame innovation - try it yourself and be mesmerized. (Thanks Sune_S & Xtian) - prophet

-Renderfix property, try this if the fe reverts to software mode after running a game or you have problems running 3d games from the fe.
-Adjusted crc.exe to not use a custom delphi dll.
-Fixed jumping camera with mouselook enabled under windows 98.
-Enabled doing stuff in the background while running a game. This means the runstopsound and vp exit key options work again.

  • Mimic WIP - An update from the Mimic WIP page.

Updated the Guide with a new page that fully documents the INI file. Man that Guide is out of date :)
I have been overhauling the high level cpu emulation loop code. Previously, I had to use ugly things like cpu0, cpu1, etc because MSC7 didn't like arrays of structures when the structures got over a certain size. Now, with DJGPP, I can use cpu[x] and minimise the code a lot. I am sure that the compiler will have a more happy time optimising it too :) - Griking

  • UltraHLE 2.0 - There's been an interesting update and preview of UltraHLE 2.0 at the UltraHLE Homepage.

"This announcement has come early due to an unforseen circumstance. In essence, we are afraid of multiple versions of UltraHLE getting released and adding to the confusion. In order to prevent this, our team has agreed to make a limited announcement concerning our participation on this project. However, there is a catch. We do not want people asking for betas, compatability information, or any questions concerning the project. What we want you to know will be on this page. If you do not see it here, then obviously we are not going to tell you at that current time. Currently, no release is planned. However, that does not mean there will not be a release, it just means that we dont know when we will be ready. I can tell you this much, we are not going to keep you on your toes. Just be patient. We only ask for one thing, that you do not email us and abide to what has been said above."

  • I Live.. Again... - Oldschool retro PC gamers will remember GT Interactive's game Blood, a first-person shooter based on the BUILD engine made famous by Duke Nukem 3D. Blood was an incredibly fun game, especially in deathmatch, featuring unique weapons such as flammable aerosol, flare pistols, voodoo dolls and "guns-akimbo" shotguns (four barrels of pleasure). Unfortunately, the BUILD engine was not true 3D, and Blood's DOS roots make the game unplayable on modern PC's... until recently. • WineX 2.2 - WineX 2.2 is primarily a maintenance release that incorporates many of the sound and multimedia improvements that Transgaming has made in recent weeks.

WineX 2.2 also includes preliminary support for Sony Online Entertainment's incredibly popular massive multiplayer on-line game, EverQuest. The complete list of changes is as follows:

    • Many improvements have been made to the sound system in WineX. Several new combinations of hardware and device drivers should now work better than previously.

    • Hardware sound buffering is supported when explicitly activated. It can be configured in the ~/.transgaming/config file, along with support for Full Duplex mode. See the WineX Beginners Guide v. 2.2 for more information.

    • DirectShow support has been significantly improved, both in performance, as well as with support for additional media types. DirectShow performance is best when hardware sound buffering is enabled.

    • Several improvements have been made to DirectInput, including support for Unicode APIs and multi-button mice.

    • A number of fixes have been made to Direct3D 8, including support switching rendering between threads, as well as various Transformation and Lighting fixes.

    • Preliminary support for EverQuest . The Game is now fully playable using the default 'new' EverQuest user interface mode, however the auto-updater may not always work properly. The standard UI mode is not fully functional, and performance improvements will be made in future releases. For more information, see the WineX 2.2 Release Notes.

    • Fixes for Mandrake 9.0 and RedHat 8.0 CD device auto-detection. Note that Mandrake 9.0 appears to have a bug with SuperMount which can cause problems reading files from a CD-ROM in some circumstances. To work around the problem, disable the SuperMount feature in the OS.
The detailed release notes for WineX 2.2 are available here. - chris
