NEC PC-Engine Under the little known consoles of the world the PC-Engine must reign supreme. Creating a cult like status amongst its owners (always a good sign) it dominated Nintendo and Sega on its first japanese outing. A rebrand and launch under a new name (Turbografx 16) in North America was to be the crowning jewel in its scepter, sadly this is where NEC dropped the ball. Although this isn't all to the blame of NEC mind you, Nintendo and its contracts of exclusiveness for manufacturers prevented NEC from releasing its vast catalogue of great japanese games onto this eager new public. Known perhaps as the system to host the greatest number of amazing 2D shooters ever and the first system in the world to over a viable CD-ROM extension it remains to this day a timeless system that many are rediscovering every day. The below emulators run under a variety of platforms. Some offer full functionality, but for a price, whilst others come very close for free. The MAC version will be out on the 28th of December. (Magic Engine site)   HU6280 v1.89 beta 13 - DOS/Windows - Hu6280 is a great free PCE emu that seeminglay came out as a reaction to ME and their pay to play strategy. Offering a new windows port, great compatiblity, and some cool add-ons (PCE mouse support anyone ?), it can rightly be considered the prince of PCE emulation. New features in the up and coming releases include speed enhancements and CD-ROM support. (HU6280 Site)   HU-GO! beta 1.06 - DOS   HU-GO! beta 1.06 - LINUX - Another free effort this one is surely looking to steal the crown from our earlier contenders. Quietly adding features faster than you can think of them it could turn out to be the best. Offering inventive features such as EAGLE support for all games and adding CD-ROM support in the public beta's this one can only get better.
