Plenty of CD and arcade card functions were added. License: Unlicensed? with Source.
gnuboy 1.0.0 - gnuboy emulates the Color GameBoy handheld console in portable C, with interfaces for X11, Linux fbcon and svgalib, SDL, DOS, and Windows, with other ports planned in the future. Changes: Auto-loading of config files on a per-ROM basis, improvements to the default configuration, much better documentation, and better visual quality in the Matrox hardware scaling on Linux fbcon. This release also works around the bug in gcc 2.96 that was causing compile-time problems for many Redhat users by disabling an unnecessary optimization, and provides a way to disable CPU-specific optimizations at compiletime so distro maintainers can produce packages that work with older CPUs. Various other fixes and cleanups to the code have been made as well. License: GPL.

QBFE has been updated to v0.6091. If for some reason you don't know what this is, this is one of the best frontends for the DOS version of Marat's vGBA. QBFE is cardware, meaning that you can get it to show 2000 ROMs rather than 1000 if you send Kojote a postcard (gee, wonder where he got that idea. =P). Here's what's new: Fixed tiny mistakes in Swedish-Language Support!
Recoded Language-Code-Routines! (Code is smaller now ;)

Opera v5.12 - My personal browser of choice has been updated to version 5.12. Not a real big update this time around, but nevertheless, this is a great browser. Here's what's new: * Enhanced pop-up window handling
* Java-enabled version includes the newest Runtime Environment,
* Bug fixes, mainly in the e-mail client
* Option to search Opera's knowledge base directly, import Netscape
e-mail and the possibility of sending a URL to Opera's e-mail
Of course, you don't need to download the one with Java. Without Java, it's only a 2 meg download. So you don't have any excuse not to at least TRY this one if you haven't already. ;) There's also this option on Opera's homepage to make your own browser. I think I might check it out, I'm envisioning a Nine Inch Nails themed browser...
Virtual X68000 1.1.7 - Virtual X68000 is a virtual machine that emulates a Sharp X68000 and optionally its DOS API. Changes: Updates for Libvm68k 1.0.4. License: GPL.

OC ReMix, GameGo!, #143 - OC #143: Darkside o' the Screen just went up, and some other cool news: many of you probably read Gamefan magazine, and if you did hopefully knew that hardcore 2d fan ECM was its editor. Gamefan's gone, but ECM's new magazine GameGo! just had its premiere issue. ECM mailed me regarding OC ReMix with a request for a M.U.S.H.A. (old genesis shooter) ReMix. Naturally, I obliged. You can get the ReMix on the site, and see a short blurb about OCR in GameGo's first issue, on newsstands now. Pretty cool.

The PAT files are generated on-the-fly from the database, so you always get the most recent codes."

Microsoft wins appeal - Microsoft has won it's appeal of the decision handed down earlier ordering the company to be broken up into seperate divisions. An appeals court ruled that Judge Jackson acted improperly, leaving him open to charges of bias. The case is to be given to a new judge to decide. The original findings of fact will remain, but the remedy (i.e. breakup) has been thrown out and must be decided by the new judge. Read more here, here, or here.

Changes: This is the first release in which you can actually pilot a starship. See the README for key bindings. This is a demonstration of the fly-by-wire computer system that makes flying in zero-G without air resistance as easy as piloting an F-16. Note that the computer cannot properly compensate for all movements, especially sharp turns at high velocities (this phenomenon is known to Wing Commander fans as afterburner slide). License: GPL

BSNES is a project to port ZSNES over to BeOS. And, unfortunately, Caz quit the project (he's the guy who ports over most of the emulators over to BeOS). There's one person left, and the only reason he's going on with it is because of Star Ocean recently being decrypted. If you wanna help out with the porting of the emulator, by all means, head on over to the official site and send him an E-Mail!
BeOS Stuff - I just visited BeEmulated and there's all sorts of cool stuff on there that I've missed. :)
The following emulators are available for it, though they're all discontinued, but if you're running or using BeOS, hey, what the hell. Can't hurt. :)
BeGameboy, which is obviously a GB/GBC emulator, BeBombJack which emulates the arcade version of Bomb Jack, BeGemeniWing emulates Gemeni Wing arcade, and an emulator that runs the Kung Fu Master arcade game.
And did you know there is a version of Bochs for BeOS?
AND a really cool idea, it's called Sarien which lets you play a lot of the older Sierra DOS games in BeOS.
I can't believe I missed all this stuff. :) You can grab it all and more from BeEmulated.
ZSNES v1.31 WIP - Looks like there's gonna be a new version of ZSNES soon, here's a WIP for it:

Made the gui "16bpp friendly" : it is now much faster in 16bpp. And added a new file selector...
The windows version of raine is now much more stable !!!
Thanks to Mario Silva for the notification !

- release date may be coming soon
- VisualBoy is not dead. I just don't have much time to work on it. A new version should be out soon with fixes.
NES2GBA v0.01 - Wondering why you need to register QBFE to show 2000 ROMs instead of 1000? Hell, there aren't even 1000 GBA ROMs available. But with this nifty little tool you can convert NES ROMs over to the PocketNES. :) You can download it from GBAEmu, a site dedicated to bringing news on the Gameboy Advance emulation/developement scene. Thanks to Kojote for showing this to me yesterday.

Efront dead, Arcade@Home gone? - Just read over at Vintage Gaming that the last gasp of life has left the corpse formerly known as eFront Media. It appears their site and DNS servers have been shut off. For those with short memories, eFront made international headlines when ICQ logs between managers were leaked. Check here for details.
The VGN article also says that arcadeathome.com is also dead.. Tim Eckel (A@H owner) claims this is due to the demise of eFront's DNS servers. However, this doesn't make much sense to me.. if you compare the DNS records of eFront against the DNS records of arcadeathome, you can see that Tim controls his own DNS and could move it wherever he wants to. The A@H record was updated today.. perhaps the site is not dead and is simply waiting for DNS to propogate (although an NSlookup to the directnic servers themselves results in no domain record for AAH..) I guess we'll find out soon enough.
Demolition Man for Visual Pinball! - An anonymous author has released a WIP of William's Demolition Man! This table is fully playable, however there are still a few issues to iron out (hence the WIP status) - I imagine the usual gang will run with it and whip it into shape pretty quick :) Get it from AJ's site.

I’ve also fixed some bugs that were added in the previous release by accident (such as Contra not scrolling.)"
JoseQ's Retirement - Sooner Or Later - Everyone's favourite Rumor ManJoseQ made an interesting posting about his personal future, ROMs and EmuView in general - please read it here !
On a lighter side - Ripped directly from the site:
Now you can finally play Star Ocean! Just to clarify, this is not a DeJap release, we're just hosting/releasing the files. The main people responsible for this project are The Dumper and zsKnight :), and the play testers StevieY, pagefault, MKendora, and Spinner 8, and of course makuchan for dumping the rom, and myself for getting the project started.
Go and get the XORs from DeJap's site. :) I think the lyric Bow down before the one you serve from the Nine Inch Nails song Head Like a Hole kinda fits in in my opinion. :)
A free emulator pirated - Someone leaked out a private beta version of Boycott Advance, and it's a FREE emulator. Just goes to show you that people are so utterly f-ing stupid to do something like this. See a very unhappy post at Boycott's official site and let's all hope that he doesn't stop the emulator because of other people's stupidity.

Gamu is a new, open source GBA emulator for the X Windows system and Linux... and that's about all I know. Here's a quote from the page regarding the homebrew GBA demos:
Unfortunately many of the demos work, if I support them. But I've decided in my own mean, nasty ways, that gamu will actually be a GBA emulator, not a "Demo emulator." Note to demo authors: 1) no writes to rom. 2) Set the background display bits correctly, and 3) correctly align your data reads/writes!
You can go to the page right here if you want to check it out. Thanks to GBAEmu for the news.

Two new recent tables for Visual Pinmame: First, IT-290 and Tbone released the 1984 Williams classic Space Shuttle yesterday (the 14th). This table is fully playable and very fast, with the only problem seeming to be an occasional glitch in MAME's sound emulation (see the readme file). This table, with it's assortment of ramps, is generally credited for helping revitalize the pinball industry after a big slump caused by the popularity of video arcade games. High Speed and Pinbot would continue this trend.
Also, Dan Roth has just released an amazing recreation of The Machine: Bride of Pinbot. Amazing, because it manages to fully incorporate the rotating "head" playfield, just like the real game! The attention to detail in this table is excellent.. very much worth the download. Note: Upon initializing the sim, you have to wait a bit for the head to calibrate, just like on the real machine.
Get both tables from AJ's site (which seems to have gotten a nice remodeling!)
Java Boy - JavaBoy is a Gameboy emulator for Java. It supports sound under Java 1.2, and also allows you to play a few two player games over the net. It can also be embedded in a web page allowing Gameboy games to be played straight off a web page.

The disk is saved as a DMK image file, suitable for use either in xtrs or in David Keil's TRS-80 emulator for MS-DOS. Besides TRS-80 disks, cw2dmk should be able to read any disk written by either a WD177x/179x or a standard PC (NEC765-compatible) floppy disk controller. cw2dmk runs on either Linux or MS-DOS. Changes: This version adds several features, including the ability to try reading odd tracks instead of even tracks when double-stepping a 0-track
disk in an 80-track drive, and the ability to read DEC RX02 disks.

RedSquirrel v0.4.4 - Hmm, looks like we had a busy wednesday. Graeme's Ahorn emu RedSquirrel got a WIP release with the following news :
RISC OS 4 works (at last). RISC OS 3.7 shouldn't have worked...
Some sound crackle is fixed. Some games and RiscPC will
still suffer from bad crackle or just noise.
Sound timing is handled in a different way which may improve matters on Win2k but it may also have other unwanted effects
RiscPC memory/vram size is configurable.
HostFS configuration is less broken ;-)
Status bar indicators for floppy/ide work again
Very slow response on fast machines (>700mhz) is fixed. This may rear its head again on > 1400Mhz machines.

Win4Lin does not run DirectX or DOS VGA applications and only supports windows 95/98 guest OSes on a Linux host OS. It can run IE 5.5, Windows Media player, Quicktime, and every business app. I've tried runs perfectly. NesterDC was updated FINALLY. =P If you don't know what this is, it's a NES emulator for the Sega Dreamcast. Here's what's new:
- The sound is close to 100% perfect.
- The game menu selection screen has been improved, but there is now a limit of 2048 (with a 128 character limit per name) roms per cd.
- The menu's look much better now, thanks to the artwork of Dave Arnold, who is also the webmaster of nesterdc.emulation64.com/
- Version 3 is noticably faster than Version 2.
- There are new frame skip options.
- If a game exists in the GAMES directory called GAME.NES, NesterDC will skip all intro menu's and run that game. This will lead to single game cd's that feel more like a real NES.
- The source code has been released.
You can download it right here. Thanks to RoundApe for the news.
Vortendo, an NES emulator written in Visual Basic 6, has been updated to version 1.0.6. This is the emulator to try if you want proof that VB6 can emulate the NES. :) Here's what's new:

Huge code clean-up, lot of unused crap removed.
A lot of cosmetic changes.
Added Free ROM menu, has requested.
Probably some other little thing i forgotten.
About Vortendo not being freeware anymore, here's a little excerpt from the readme:
Vortendo is NESCartware, what it means ? Means that if you use it and want to registrate you should send me a working NES Cartrigde, normal binary version are still being produced and will be distributed for FREE to non-registred users.

RockNESX - Alexandre da Veiga released the second beta of his Windows port of RockNESX.
The battery save is FINALLY working;
The GUI menu item File->Play Selected Rom has been fixed;
Now RockNES X stores the roms list in a file rocklist.dat), so it do not need to search for your 5000 roms every time the emu is started :)
The way screenshots are named has changed. Now, the screenshots are automatically saved as romname 0.bmp, romname 1.bmp... romname N.bmp. It is not needed to change the slot to save different shots during the gameplay. Using the old system (slots), you could save up to 10 shots per game. Now this number has been increased to 2 billion :)

PCM sounds were not always played in CD-ROM games, now it should be ok. :)" - And about the Macintosh : "We have also tweaked again the CD-ROM code in the Mac version, but this probably won't make any change - as usual... :( But we still have good news, an user reported us a quick way to bypass this problem (Thanks Steve!). :) If you replace the Mac CD/DVD extension (v1.4) in MacOS 9.x by an older version (v1.2) of this extension from MacOS 8.x, the problem won't be present and everything should work fine".
Spectrum Tape Flood - Gilby informed us about another major update he did recently at .TZX Vault :

ROCKNES X v2.0 beta1 - The recently announced new RockNESX beta is online. Alexandre da Veiga's Windows port of Fx3's famous NES emulator has gone through some major changes. Most of the emulators code has been rewritten. New in this release are :
Netplay support (TCP/IP, IPX, serial, modem), ZIP support, rewritten sound core, joystick bugs smashed, better screenshot support, scanlines mode now much faster, bilinear filtering via hardware and much more. Note : you'll need DirectX 8 to run this emu.
WOW - I played some rounds of Mario and Bucky O'Hare and I dare to say ROCKNES X v2.0 is an impressive new toy. The scanline + stretch graphics mode is really awesome :) And the annoying sound delay is finally gone too ! Windows using NES fans will surely love Alexandre's great gift :) Thanks to James Zhang for the email.
