The funny thing is, in some parts of the world, it's already April 1st :)
Our host, ztnet.com, has accepted an offer from Simplenet to buy his company. The total amount of cash involved is $1,300,000 This means that from tomorrow on, we will be hosted by Simplenet (let's hope we don't get their "terms of service"). Lev was quoted saying: "F*ck emulation.. I want the money.."
Zoop has updated his Meka Site with the news that Phantasy Star will have music emulation for Phantasy Star since Meka now correctly emulates the YM2413 chip found inside the Sega Master System !! There are 2 mp3s online now, where you can listen to the sound. Although these were encoded from a real SMS, Meka will have the same sound :)
Make sure you have a midi of The Eagles' Hotel California playing when you read (=sing) these lyrics ;-) Thanks to wook for the link
Nintendo 2001 rumours: It's supposed to have a 128-bit, 400 Mhz CPU with a custom (writeable) 1.5 GB DVD drive. The controller is to have vibrating buttons (I can see the lawsuits coming ;) and a lot more which you can read here
As you may know, UserFriendly.org is being sued by (this is my GUESS -ed.) Microsoft because of negative connotations within your cartoon regarding [our client], and if Userfriendly doesn't comply; we [the lawyers] will initiate a suit to claim damages for libel and defamation. What this means is that Micro$oft is not happy with the fact that they are being "put down" in the cartoons. From today on, we will support User Friendly in any way we can. Click here to go to the "SUPPORT USER FRIENDLY" website !
TMAME 0.35 b9 released! Geyik released this Turkish version of MAME, arkadaslar, lütfen burayi tiklayin TMAME'i yükleme icin :)
Someone mailed me about EmuTV a while back, I lost your mail, could you please mail me again ?
I just wanted to remind everyone that Retrogames will be ONE YEAR OLD tomorrow and that isn't an April Fool's :)
I got a mail today from John Stinger, webmaster of the Japanese Computer Emulation Centre. He covers a lot of systems we don't, including the X68000, MSX and PC88 (great systems !!) He has lots of info on those systems, including games you can use with the emulators ! - Atila -
Coinster will have another Retro Radio out tomorrow ! - The Fox -
Here's an unofficial MAME32 0.35 beta 9 compiled by CJC, who also compiled the last version for win32 (beta 8). Again, do not bother the MAME team about this release.
I have no idea what happened, could be a trick since tomorrow is April 1st, or could be real. I know as much as you do. - Atila -
Retrogames doesn't often mention Daves Classics, but this time is an exception. As a site it is/was one of the greatest ever. Reports indicate that an unknown hardware manufacturer has sued UGO (Dave's host)for copyright infringement, and as a result the site is completely gone. It is also believed that the whole thing *could* be an April Fool's joke... Thanks JoseQ for the info. -P-
Not much going on right now... Anyway - Welcome to Foxy! I'm sure Retrogames will benefit greatly from his help. Also, just in case anyone tried to mail me today, my hotmail account appears to be messed up right now. So try again later I guess. -P-

The Danji Site has been updated, but I can't read it, since it's in Korean. Thanks to Katharsis for the tidbit
The Fox has updated his Comment's page, he's closing down emuunlim.com and joining Retrogames! Read his last statement to find out WHY he's doing it.
ClrMAME 1.30 released! From the homepage: ClrMame is a little tool for Win9x/NT4.0. It cleans your M.A.M.E. directories. It reports missing games, roms and samples, wrong sized/spelled/unnecessary files ... and much more. Click here to see what's new in version 1.30
Melissa update: The website where it first originated from has been identified with the help of Microsoft's Global Unique Identifier, the serial number in Word documents that shouldn't have been in there in the first place. Read the full story here.
Remember that Sega-CD emu I mentioned I while back ? Well, Leah has got Lunar emulated now (fully) emulated now on her unnamed Sega-CD/Mega-CD emu. The sound is not good enough yet, but it's being worked on. And since it's nameless, you can submit your name for the Sega-CD emu here, kinda like a small contest, although you can't win anything ;)
Namco has updated his site with a load of new Jaguar Roms, click here to get them :)
Eidolon's Inn has been updated, now including the world's first Genesis ROM Patch section and the most complete Sega technical resource section. With heaps of other info available at this site, this is a must visit! He even has a 32X Devkit for those who are interested in emulating it ;)
MAMEWIP Page updated with luvverly pics of Super Locomotive, Gaplus, Sindbad and Yamato!!
The new A/PMAME has support for 26 more games than the official MAME versions. These are most likely the games that were commented in the MAME source. These are incomplete and VERY buggy, use at your own risk!!
An APPLE reseller was bombed last night in Athens, Greece. The police thinks the NATO attacks on Serbia were the motives for the attacks. (I wanted to make a funny comment here, but I think the feds will probably arrest me if I did :)
Microsoft has a nice surprise in store for people using WIN95 or WinNT who want to use the Windows Update feature, you'll need to INSTALL IE5, complete with that security risk we mentioned yesterday. Click here for more info
If you have a PalmPilot, you may soon enjoy Gameboy games on it :) Maven is writing a GameBoy emulator for it and a demo that runs Tetris should be out in about 2 weeks. Click here to read an interview that PalmPilot InfoCenter did with Maven.
Melissa, a new "virus" was released this weekend. It's basically a mail with and adultsites list. But it multiplies itself 50 times and it keeps going, so it's not a real virus, but it can still "kill" servers because of the load. Click here to read an article on Melissa and how to take precautions against it. This is mainly an Outlook (Express) problem ....
I've added XGL200, the ultimate (?) glide wrapper for use with UltraHLE. This wrapper gave me the best results on my ATI XPERT@WORK, a smooth 25 fps. It works with LOTS of different chipsets, chances are it'll work correctly with your card too.
Almost forgot! Killer Clown & Roclobsta have created a MAME bug reporting/collecting site & message board. They are currently enrolling volunteers to "adopt" several games to test with each MAME beta. The idea is to provide MAME team with an accurate, centralized & complete bug report as quickly as possible by using a large force of testers. I think this a long overdue idea, and hopefully many people will apply and the MAME devs will approve and make use of this endeavor. -P-
Apollo69 has released the Ninja Masters fix batch file. You ONLY need this if you replaced the old v2 ROM, and no longer have a copy of it. This batch file will actually repair the new v2. If you look further down this page, you'll find the entire ROM file - BUT this batch file is just 27k, and the entire ROM is 1.7mb. -P-
Mike Stulir was kind enough to let me know about the latest episode of Back in Time. They have some great upcoming episodes as well, so stay tuned! -P-
"This episode features an extensive interview with Curt Vendel, curator of the Atari Historical Society. Curt and I discuss all aspects of classic Atari gaming and computing, as well as emulators, ROMs, some of the recent classic game updates, and some fascinating prototype Atari game/computer equipment that never made it to the market. Curt will probably be one of the largest historical gaming exhibitors at Classic Gaming Expo later this year, and he talks about his plans for that show. This is the longest episode to date. (Slightly over 40 minutes.)"
Andrew Gow sent this neogeo.drv update for KBMAME. It will allow Ninja Masters to load normally with the correct sound ROMs. -P-
Not much to tell... Visited some relatives, and lo and behold there was a NeoGeo MVS in a local pizza shop. I played Shock Troopers 2nd Squad, and it's really awesome. =) -P-

AntiRiad, the author of RAINE, is having major hardware troubles, he thinks it's probaly mainboard (gmb-p55ips) related. If you are a bit of a technician and you are based in the UK, you can mail AntiRiad here.
The Flyer and Poster Archive for MAME has been updated to version 2.1, with 24 new pictures and 6 replaced. This brings the count to 507 !! You can use these with MAME frontends like TKMame and Arcade@home
HUWIN 6280 1.89 Beta 8 released ! This PC-Engine emulator just got a MASSIVE speedboost, more of the CPU core has been turned into x86 assembler. Check the HU6280 Site for more info
A group of students that failed a computer course is sueing the school. All 12 students failed a 1997 course which was supposed to certify them to work with Microsoft software programs. They were told that if you could "point and click", they would probably complete the course succesfully. Click here for the full story.
The NeoGeo Pocket Color will be available to U.S Customers from April on, from the SNK Website. So you won't have to wait until September to buy the thing!! 2 games that you can play on this handheld (which has awesome specs, btw) are Fatal Fury: First Contact and Samurai Spirits 2 (= Samurai Shodown 2), click here for pics.
IE5 has a security flaw that Microsoft calls a "feature". Remote servers can now read what's on your clipboard through a small piece of ActiveX/Java code. Now, you must be REAL glad yo installed IE5 now, huh ? Click here to read more about the story AND find out on how to disable this "feature"
The weather in The Netherlands is VERY nice today, I might be heading out later in my car, "2 miles an hour, so everybody sees me" =)
Meka wasn't released yesterday, because Zoop was fixing up the GUI and removing a few bugs. Zoop has now confirmed that Meka (his Sega Master System Emulator) will be out April 3rd.
Ultra.ini 1.0.13 for UltraHLE released! There is a HUGE list of new things, but the most important things are that Snowboard Kids is now fully playable and Silicon Valley is (almost) full playable. Check Arcade@Home for more info.
Yes, I know it's getting late :) -A-

Just confirmed: American 117 Stealth Bomber shot down over Yugoslavia... Violence belongs in video games. Nuff said. -P-
If anyone still needs KBMAME (Unofficial MAME build by Deimos), here is the ASM core version, and here is the C core version. This is the best NeoGeo emu IMO - just like regular MAME but with savestates, 16 bit color for all games, emulated overclocking and other cool stuff. -P-
NOTICE: The Ninja Masters sound fix included an INCORRECT v2 ROM. ONLY replace the v1 ROM, because the old v2 was good. If you need more information, visit Apollo69. Do not worry if you no longer have your old v2 ROM - a batch file fix is on the way... Anyone stupid enough to flame Apollo69 on our message boards for this one small mistake will be INSTANTLY banned. -P-
The West Australian (OZ Newspaper) has written a small piece on Bleem which you can read here (100k). Thanks to TheGuru for the scan
EmuCamp is 2 years old today !! As a birthday present Zoop has something in store for us: I am currently working on finalizing Meka to be able to release it today. So be sure to check this page again, you may find a surprise here. Back to work.. EmuCamp have also released Power Strike 2 for the Sega Master System, which you can download over at Emu Camp.
The official Dreamcast launch date has been set to 9/9/1999, Irijimari-san mentioned that the next Dreamcast models will have a DVD-drive. Sega is also talking to Iomega for a DC Zip Drive. NGO also reports that the DC sales have gone down a bit this week, with "only" 9k+ units sold. And to round things off on this Dreamcast report, Sega is working on a new Naomi fighting game ( can you smell the DC port ? ) called WAFFUPU, it won't be using rounds, but points ! So if you get 5 points, you win. Somehow reminds me of martial arts tournaments :)
Andrew Gow sent me a neogeo.drv for use with KBMAME, it supports the correct romsets for KOF98, Waku Waku 7, Pulstar and Ninja Masters
Steven Livingston has sent me a translation of the Dboy 0.47 docs: DBOY 0.47 (Kasumi the serious joker commemorative release?), changed how DBOY auto-recognizes a SGB cart. (rom), changed SGB coding , GB drawing timer (a display method) and corrected history in Dboy.txt
This Monday, Cygnus will be releasing the PSX2 developement tools, included is a PSX2 SIMULATOR (used for debugging purposes!) =) Click here for more info Thanks to Gridle for the news
Word has it that TOYS-R-US has set the retail price for the Dreamcast at $199,99 and is taking pre-orders already for $20 an order. In other news, GameSpot has listed the launch titles for Dreamcast, which you can read here

Hahah, seems the "microphone" article from yesterday was an April's Fool (phew), although stranger things have happened in the US :) Thanks to all those people that mailed me.
Unofficial MAME32 beta 8 released! Please do not bother the MAME team with questions about this release. Thanks go to CJC ;)
Sigh... New Bleem! demo now available. It's a "world" version which plays games from all countries, has more compatability and color movie playback. Still no sound (aside from CD) or 3D support. I personally can't try Bleem! because unlike all other emus I've used, it won't work on my system. And yes, I have DX6.1 and latest drivers etc.... -P-

This next article is so ludicrous, it's something you HAVE to read. Small hint: Virtually EVERY PC sold after March 1996 has a built-in microphone and because of that, someone is getting sued, because of something they said and someone else heard. Click here to read the article
What a funny morning already :) It's very good weather here in the Netherlands, about 20 degrees Celsius, and already a bunch of funny stuff posted, you ready for one more? Click here for a medical report, but it is vital you read it in WORD, since WORDPAD doesn't get the desired effect :P Thanks go to Sharon for DCCing me this.
Remind me to never go to Taco Bell again, check this pic out ;) Thanks to Raven__ for pointing this out.
Sony has now CONFIRMED that it will be using Linux as the PSX2 developement platform.
The RIAA is saying that MP3 could be the reason why sales have dropped as much as they have (well doh!), they released a report yesterday and this is one of the better parts of it: "Potentially, the rise of the Internet as a free entertainment center, and the accompanying availability of free MP3 music files, could be contributing factors". Instead of using MP3 to their advantage, they want to destroy it. Click here for the full story, thanks wook :)

NATO has begun their AIR STRIKE on Yugoslavia!!! Go to CNN.COM for more coverage
Michael Russel has written a follow-up to his (positive) emulation article of a few weeks ago, this one discusses how Sega could use emulation to make the Dreamcast a huge success, complete with an DC emulator and consumer devkits ! It's an interesting read, click here to read it.
Here's the link to the 110MB APHEX TWIN - WINDOW LICKER (NB. link is removed) video, if you are not on cable or something, don't even go there. You will end up clogging the server with your 28k8 connect. Thanks to Akira for the link this morning :)
Lemmy has added basic dynamic recompilation to Nemu64, giving a 50% speedboost over the last public release (I got about 8 fps on my PII-266 running the firedemo). Lemmy expects a bigger speedboost when he turns the most important opcodes into ASM.
Nothing much yet, I'm currently downloading a 110 Mbyte version of the Window Licker video I reported about a few days ago, once I'm done leeching I *might* post the URL :)

Virtual Boy Emu update: David Tucker is trying to hook up his VB controller to his PC and I think he needs some help since he writes: "If anyone has any experience wiring up a SNES pad to the parallel port, would you contact me. This defiantly looks like a SNES controller, and It would be really nice to wire up the VB controller to the PC for use with the emu.", click here for the full story
Jim has written his last update on Emu News World, he is closing it down. He's accepted a new job, which renders it almost impossible to keep updating the site on a daily basis. We, here at Retrogames, wish Jim all the best with his new job. EmuNews will be missed .....

Bill Gates was arrested in 1977 in New Mexico, click here for the mugshots :) Nice one, Deej ;)
The response to the released bleem! demo is not really good. People really wanted to see a demo with hardware 3D support, not a version which does less than the leaked beta from a while ago. This was not a smart release, if you ask me. A version with 3D support would have been better, even if it was time limited or something, you still could have disabled the sound. People would have gotten an idea on how well a game would look on their system. Now they just see what they've seen for quite some time now. Check the general messageboard for bleem! posts, they're (almost) all negative
bleem! released! This version is a demo version without hardware 3D support and such. Here it is, the "ultimate" PSX emulator, here is the US version, the European version and the Japanese version. If you are in the USA, download the US version, etc etc. Click here to read the readme.txt For more info or to pre-order your copy of bleem!, please go to the bleem! site
Emulators Unlimited have reopened the UltraHLE Site. This does not necessarily mean that a new version of UHLE will be released. It will feature an interview with RealityMan next week and a little surprise too :)
Shane Monroe has released a new Retro Radio, this is the longest show to date (almost 47 minutes!). One of the features this time is an interview with Neil Bradley, of Retrocade fame!
It's coming ....... (nb. I was talking about bleem!)

Nothing much yet, but I'll start updating pretty soon. Manbeast gave me a link to the Aphex Twin - Window Licker video yesterday, it's from the APHEX TWIN Site and encoded @ 80 kbps. The zip file is 6 MB big, this the the full, uncut version, it has explicit lyrics in it. But if MTV plays it, I guess it not too bad =) It's basically about these 2 homies cruisin' the streets for girls, RealPlayer G2 required :)

Wanna play Galaga 88 & Pacmania with MAME? And how about a fixed ASM core for NeoGeo games for 0.35 beta 7 while we're talking? Well, HERE it is, courtesy of Emulatronia! Be sure to use 16-bit color with the Namco System 1 games. :) NOTE: You must use the DIPs to turn test mode off, and Galaga88 appears to not start due to a "RAM error." And the driver is very, very slow. If you don't have a fast PC (P2-300 absolute minimum) you will get very low fps. -P-
Psyke 0.20f *FINAL* released! This is the last release of PSYKE (PSX emulator), this version has a major speed-up and XA Audio emulation and a lot more. Thanks to Emu24X for the news
The Webby Awards (like the Oscar's for the net) were held on the 18th in San Francisco and MAME was nominated for the games category. MAME didn't win. The award went to Gamers Central (chosen by the jury) and Shockrave (chosen by the people)
Bernie Stolar (Sega of America's president) has revealed some things about the US Dreamcast launch, the modem will be upgraded to 56k and House of the Dead 2, Geist Force, Sonic Adventure, Virtua Fighter 3tb, and Super Speed Racing will be available at launch, as will Sega Rally 2. He also confirmed Mortal Kombat 5 (!!), Soul Caliber, Ready 2 Rumble and a new Castlevania will be available!! No firm details were released about date and price, but rumour has it that the Dreamcast will be priced at around $200, click here for the full story. Thanks to UNAE for the link
Almost forgot about this, the bleem! site has posted pics of bleem!, using the D3D driver which look really good! PIcs have been posted of Bloody Roar, Jet Moto 2 and Tekken 3
DEPAM (neogeo cd emulator) news: Der_Pepe has added a newer neogeo-cd bios, so that way it'll be more compatible, Emulatronia has posted a pic of DEPAM running the new bios, which you can view here. They also have a pic of the NeoGeo CD Player online on their main page, also emulated :) Thanks to ptitfous for the news
The Moonlit Coalition Site has been updated with the news that the NES will be one of the 5 systems in MOONRISE, their multi-console emulator (N64 and PSX are the other 2). Thanks to Geronimo for the tidbit ;)
Meka Site updated! Zoop is working hard on MEKA, his Sega Master System emulator. Here's what's new: Sorry for the lack of update. I was very busy working on other projects. I fixed dynamic palette emulation (introduction in Power Strike 2 for Game Gear), nationalization (Pop Breaker) and various bugs here and here. I also finished converting the (huge) compatibility list to a new format, and added even more entrys and comments in the checksum list. Good news is that we should see a public release WITHIN 2 weeks, April 3rd at the latest!
The new version of Vila Caldan (platformer for Color Gameboy) has been added to the Gameboy page
StellaX 1.1.1 released!! This is a major bugfix release, here's what's new:
- Video works on all systems: Windows 9x, Windows NT and Windows 2000
- Runs on systems without sound cards
- Fixed some GDI leaks which would eventually cause a reboot on Win9x machines
- Made GUI come up faster after a game is finished playing
- Right player ';' key wasn't working in 1.1
- Undocumented command line option -mute : mute all sound
- Undocumented command line option: -showfps : show FPS counter at end of game
Rikin has mailed me one of his NEOGEM betas and the news that KOF98 will run on a P233 with 64MB of RAM, so for those longing for a new NeoRAGE because their system isn't fast enough for MAME, you can rejoice, since NEOGEM uses the same ASM StarScream core that NeoRAGE uses :)
A Belgian Internet Service Provider (ISP) has been convicted of copyright infringement after subscribers to a bulletin board were found to be using the service to upload copies of Novell software .... And here's the MAME 0.35 Beta 7 BINARY (compiled by Gridle), now go play some games! Oh, if you discover any bugs or whatever, please use our MAME MESSAGEBOARD to post them. It's read by MAMEDEVS (NB. thanks anyway Kokiri :)
Microsoft will release MS Audio 4.0 pretty soon, it's their answer to MP3. Supposedly the files created with it are 50% smaller than with MP3.
Andrew Gow has sent me a neogeo.drv which loads the correct Waku Waku 7 sound roms in KBMAME :)
The RockNES Site has posted pics of the next version of RockNES.
Nemu64 0.12 released! This is a pretty big release, check what Lemmy has to say: New release after one week. I implemented more RCP (RSP/RDP) emulation and I am getting first results! Mortal Kombat Trilogy shows up the title screen, vnes64 "works" (tried with Zelda 1) and Virtual Springfield Site also displays some nice things. All these RDP roms use the sprite engine of the n64. My emulation for it is very buggy. The reason why I haven't fixed them yet is that I am going to rewrite my RDP graphics core. Not only that, he will try to get a new RDP core to work with Direct 3D.
Sean Palmer mailed me about a mail that going around. The subject is "It takes guts to say God", the attachment will format your C: drive, be careful!!
I was wondering if everyone found the link for the beta 6 roms on yesterday's news, if not, look harder ;)
Cloud, the "author" of VR32MAME has posted a message on our neogeo board, explaining what happened (with VR32MAME being a KBMAME hack and all). Be sure to read the replies too.
Here's an article on emulation that's pretty nice to emulation in general. The author explains why he uses emulation and why it's legal :) Thanks to wook for the link

TKmame 0.35 -pre6 released!! Yeah, pretty big update, some nice bugfixes and fully in synch with MAME 0.35 b6. Both an English and Dutch version of this marvelous mame frontend have been released!
Remember that N64 emu I mentioned a while back, with almost full RSP and RDP emulation ? Well, it runs DOOM64 now in wireframe mode, and once dynamic recompilation gets added, it's gonna fly!!
The Fox has updated his Comment's Page, it features among other things nice pics from the new raine beta!!
*SIGH*, VR32mame is a shameless hack of KBMAME. I was reading the general messageboard and saw a post by Deimos (author of KBmame) about VR32MAME. He noticed the same errors with VR32mame as there are with his KBMAME, he unpacked the .exe and saw his own error messages!! Then Deimos posted this on our board: I compared the unpacked vrmameb6.exe to my unpacked kbmamea7. They are exactly the same size. And the important parts are in the same places. Why is save/restore not working then? Because he "spaced out" the string I used to build the filename. Oh, and he also "spaced" the string "neogeo.drv" so that the dynamic driver won't work. Unfortunately for him, he couldn't remove the default keyboard mapping because there was nothing visible to hex-edit. So, if the author of VR32MAME would like to clear this up please, just mail me
Jeff Miller sent me a mail today, saying that StellaX (Stella for DirectX) will be out in a few days, running 60 fps on a P133 with NT4 (eh ?!).
Connectix Corp. says it will continue developing a Windows version of Virtual Game Station despite a temporary restraining order granted Thursday to Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., maker of the Sony PlayStation. Click here to the full story, thanks to Gilles Celli for the news
Nullsoft, makers of WinAMP, is being sued for $20,000,000 by PlayMedia Systems. PlayMedia Systems is a Los Angeles company that develops and licenses audio and video technology, and owns the "AMP Audio MPEG Player" software engine that decodes MPEG files. The company insists Nullsoft's player uses its AMP code. According to the suit, Frankel licensed the AMP code from Tomislav Uzelac, now the director of media systems at PlayMedia Systems. The suit claims that Uzelac granted a nonexclusive license to Frankel, in exchange for a royalty fee in September 1997. This is true, but Nullsoft switched to their Nitrane decoding engine a while back, I don't know what the fuss is about :) Let's see what happens, here's the full story. Thanks wook !
Seems we've been had by Intel once again ... The Register is reporting that "An architect who currently works for Intel US has now confirmed what we were beginning to suspect all along -- every .25 micron Intel chip has the processor serial number (PSN). The chip designer, who revealed the news under strict conditions of anyonymity, said: "Any .25 micron core including the PII, all Celerons and all current Xeons have had serialisation ever since .25 micron technology started." The exception is the .25 Tillamook P5 MMX, he said. I have to say that that AMD-K7 is starting to look REAL good now. Click here for the full story, thanks to Phil Baxter for the news.

I could think off a million and one funny things to say about this next cartoon but I won't, go check yourself :)
Gordon has updated his MAME ROM INFO PAGE to be in synch with mame 0.35b6. MRIP lists the CRCs/sizes/names/etc for all the roms used in mame. It also lists roms that are duplicate, very handy site, this MRIP :)
With a bit of luck we'll be adding the new mame roms this in a few hours time, until then, go play PAC-X or JAS-SYSTEM 1 :)
I was looking through the March edition of Consoles+ (French magazine) and I noticed some news about Fatal Fury Wild Ambition. It looked kinda cool, but I think it ran on the neogeo64 hardware (.ie polys). Joe Higashi looked kinda cool, but Mai was lacking ;) I'll try and find some pics of the game and put a link up to it.
I got a burner this weekend, and I would like to thank whoever invented burners :)

Our friend Haze has released an Eagle version of Neo Geo MAME based upon 0.35 beta 5. Eagle is a smoothing routine that some people might like, providing you're not a pixel purist (like me!). However it is slow, so you'll probably need a fast PC to get good results. Please note: this is NOT the same as BlurMAME. Haze has just been busy with his C compiler today! =) -P-
Raine site updated!!! Several new games have been added including Insector X and The New Zealand Story. Pics are up for your viewing pleasure. :) Thanks once more to JoseQ. -P-

Zoop has just updated the Meka Site with the following news: Today I took the time to work on the emu and fixed tons of minor bugs. Got "Castle" to run (very good and addicting game !). Not really emulation related (but then again, what is on this site ?), here's MODPLUG PLAYER 1.40 (Modplug site). This is the best Mod player out there, it has a zillion features like Surround Sound, reverb, and bass expansion. It's fully configurable and it rocks! The reason it's added to Retrogames is that 1) totally rocks and 2) it emulates WinAMP ! That's right, you can use your winamp plugins with Modplug :) Just to show you how good mods can sound, here are 2 files by Jay! (one of my fav composers), who is a member of RBI and Aeon. The first is Invaders, the second is Illegal Acid Freak. These songs should be played VERY loud!!
DBOY 0.45 released! I have no idea what's new, click here for the homepage (Japanese)
Wired has a nice article on the Amusement Showcase International (ASI) expo, one of the new things there is this: On the Combatica system by Pasadena, California-based Holoplex, you don't just play Street Fighter -- you actually do the fighting. It's as close as you can get, anyway, without actually risking a kick to the head. Now, this is what I've been waiting for, the Activator [remember that thingie??] kinda sucked ;) Thanks to Wook for the link
Emuviews is back up! Jose had some trouble with his carrier, they wouldn't let his webservices run (.ie no www acces, but FTP and such was working), so he had to move to a temporary location. For now, just use http://emuviews.com (without WWW) to acces his site!
Here's a hilarious link that the Pastor of Muppets sent me, cracked me up!!

I also have my videocard replaced, so that crappy SIS card is out of my system now. I got my ATI XPERT@WORK (AGP 2x) back and it's fast :) MAME32, here I come !

Check what Guru-Choc over at Arcade Heaven writes today: Mame, coming to a bar/club/pub near you. Judging by a telephone conversation I had this evening mame will soon be in 20" cabinets with it's own frontend and licecned roms for you to enjoy at your favourite bar/club/pub, probably within 6-8 weeks the first 20" cabs with joysticks and buttons will start appearing in the USA. I am pretty sure no-one in mamedev is being paid for this, but the company involved has brought the copyright to many old games, and will be usuing these in their product. As I know more I'll let you know. Start saving up those quarters again ;) Thanks to Bart for the ICQ :)

Time Magazine has posted an article on emulators and the IDSA has their say again. Somehow I think these corporate people know diddly-squat about emulation and the IDSA keeps blaming the industry's loss of $3,2 billion on emulation. When will the emulation community get credit for opening up a whole new market to these companies ? And I have one more thing to say to these online publications: PLEASE CHECK YOUR INFO BEFORE PUBLISHING!! Feel free to mail me or any other siteop to VERIFY the things that you write down, it helps you to look less dumb. Thanks to Limbs a Flyin' for the link

I had this really great idea for a movie last night, it's about sending 4 homiez and their car back to the slave era. I got the idea from listening to Eddie Murphy's DELIRIOUS and Back to the Future III. Somehow I think it would be cool to let them kick some "mastah" booty ;) It can go both ways, either a comedy or an action movie. If someone decides to make a movie out of it, I'd like my *cough* share *cough* please =)

BLEEM-A-THON !! Here's a mail I got from one of the Bleem guys: David from bleem (you know the sales/marketing guy!) is putting together bleem-a-thon! If you live in the LA area, or can get there easily in the later part of this week (10th - 13th), can bring a PC (166 or higher pref.), have a nice collection of PSX games, AND want to spend some time playing bleem! email firstname.lastname@example.org (the day we are shooting for is the 13th, but if you want to participate, and can't on the 13th, but can on the 10th, 11th, or 12th email us still!) My ATI APERT@WORK AGP 2x died last night, so I had to replace it with a SIS 6202 PCI I had laying around. The ATI card was way better, but this'll have to do for now. I tried Sunset64 on it, eventhough the card is slow it got really good fps :) The next release should be in a month's time, at the earliest. It will however, probably incorporate MOONRISE (secret project ;)
DEPAM Alpha Teaser released! This is a NEOGEO CD emulator, I don't know if it works, since I have no neogeo cds here.
The RockNES Site has been slightly revamped and will post an updated compatibility list for RockNES 0.74. Thanks to Adrox for the news.

Ah here goes: Today I went to the office, checked my mail and wanted to update the site. Then I try to logon to the server and I can't login. I'm confused. It seems the server upgrade went okay but somehow we can't update the site. I try to edit it via the shell using pico, which works, but somehow the changes are not showing when I reload the page. Then Chemical explains what happened (server upgrade and all) so I let it go. My mom calls, she says she wants to go visit some relatives over in Belgium so we did. I spent the next 7 hours driving back and forth. I get back to the office and find out my PII-266 is almost dead. And now I'm updating in the middle of the night :)

Gridle has written a cool utility that renames your SNES roms to the correct names, so that sf2.smc will now be StreetFighter2USA.smc and sh98983245.smc will turn into Zelda3Linktothepast.smc :) It's really cool and necessary if you have a big (or small) collection, you can check it out here.
My ISP finally changed its name to CHELLO, so I have a new email address now: email@example.com. This means that everyone that has me banned from their IRC channel (because I'm too hot to handle ;) should update their banlists. This has been a public service announcement. -A-
Retrogames eXclusive: I have just seen the first N64 emu that (almost) FULLY emulates the RSP (Reality Signal Processor) and RDP (Reality Display Processor) lowlevel. It runs demos pretty fast, but demos that utilize the RSP are slow, but they work :) This emu is made by an author that wishes to remain anonymous. -A-
*SIGH*, more bad news. Realityman (UltraHLE) has informed me that he is quitting emulation, click here to read his final statement :(
Seems someone didn't quite get the picture about Y2K, thanks to Fredrik for the mail

Happy Birthday to Arcade@Home! I still think of Tim's site as Ultimate MAME Machine, because that was it's name before he started making that frontend of his. :) Anyway, UMM was the first site I ever visited on the net. Happy 1st B'day Tim. Retrogames will be a year old soon as well - on April 1st! =) -P-

GaBa is looking for technical info about the MegaDrive 32X, as he wants to make an emulator for it. If you can help him, send a mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
We all know that the Dreamcast isn't backwards compatible with Saturn software, which is a shame really. It seems that's about to change, as Sega Otaku is reporting that Sega of Japan is working on a Sega Saturn emulator in-house, supposedly called Sat-Cast. If it's true, it will be totally awesome!! Thanks to Zophar's Domain for the news
GBFan 1.09 released, I really don't know what's new, since I can't read Japanese. Check the xxFAN Site for more info.
BrSMS 1.18.2 has been released to registered users, here's what's new: This version has no new features compared with 1.18 - but it does works under Windows
Whoever did this, needs to have their brain checked out!
BrSMS v.1.18 is very unstable under Win95 - a new version should come soon to fix these problems. Check the homepage for details. Thanks again to News-u-lator for the info. :) -P-
Well, for some reason I'm having trouble viewing some of our hosted sites (like MAME WIP for example) but luckily News-u-lator posted Gridle's latest news. There were no new pics, but just the following text: -P-
"Bryan McPhail has sent in his dec0 driver, with Boulder Dash support added and Sly Spy and Midnight Resistance now have full sound and music. All this was possible to do because he also added support for the Hu6280 CPU into MAME. Aaron Giles has updated the Namco System 1 sound system, merging it with the other Namco system. He also added 16-bit sampling support for it. Tatsuyuki Satoh has sped up the C 68k core, and Ernesto Corvi has updated Pacland to support sound. Mike Coates has fixed several bugs with the ASM 68k core (Shock Troopers should work now). Jürgen Buchmüller has fixed a RETN opcode bug in the Z80 core."
Cloud (homepage) has released VRMAME 0.35 beta 4! This is a NeoGeo-only MAME that runs even large ROMs in only 32mb RAM or more. It has 16bit color, overclocked CPU to 22mhz and is more stable. -P-
I fixed a bug which leads to strange length-fixing-messages after
fixing a wrong spelled file. This bug could lead to other currently
unknown and not reported sideeffects.
(Thank you Andrew !)
By the way: If you have problems while starting ClrMame
(MFC42.DLL crashes) you'll need a new version of
this dll. I'm using
version 6.00.8267.0. (Roman Scherzer, ClrMAME author)
Good luck with that NT problem Atila. I have no idea how to help. :( -P-
Tuesday, March 2nd 1999 - Last updated @ 22:19 CET
The error I get in NT is the following: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc00000005). Press OK to terminate the application. See the weird thing is, certain programs work (like ACDSee) but mIRC give me that error too. All programs in the system tray give the same at start up. Even the NT Explorer takes like almost a minute to load, same goes for the Control Panel. I'm going to remove my card from my system and reboot. Maybe that'll help. -A-
Father Death has just updated his editorial, he talks about Intel and the PIII and about EGM Magazine.
I need some help from someone that REALLY knows Windows NT. I removed my "audio line->soundblaster 16 or AWE32" from "control panel->multimedia->devices" because I wanted to install new drivers. After rebooting, almost everything hung. All programs in my systray won't start, systray.exe won't even start. I can hardly run any programs, they all give the same error at startup. I tried to reinstall the SB drivers, but I can even run "control panel->multimedia", it just won't execute. So I need some help, can I add the drivers manually? How to let NT4 know I have an SB in my machine ? -A-
New Back In Time (Realaudio show)! Mike mailed me the contents of this show and basically it rocks, here goes: This episode should be of particular interest to all classic gaming and emulation enthusiasts. CGE'99 promises to be a grand spectacle and is solely devoted to celebrating the history of video, arcade and computer games. Many guest speakers have been lined up for this event. Nolan Bushnell, the inventor of Pong, and the founder of Atari Corporation, will be giving the keynote address. John and I discuss a number of topics including ROMs, emulators, the IDSA, John's new book deal for Atari & classic gaming, and the details for Classic Gaming Expo

MacMAME 0.35b4a released! Straight from the MacMAME Site: There was a conflict between the PPC Z80 core and a change that was made to the C Z80 core which caused some games to freak out or not work at all. This is now fixed. [Brad Oliver]
Retrogames has (as you can see) passed 2,000,000 visitors!!! Thanks to all our visitors!!! =) -P-

Apollo69 and I did decide on a game for Neocharity, but he won't be back for another 2 days, so I don't know if I'm allowed to announce it :) We are getting closer to visitor 2,000,000, which should be here later today, or tomorrow morning.

The Fox has updated his Weekly Comments, UltraHLE is coming back in one form or another! There's also another N64 emulator being released next week, which also uses dynamic recompilation and will be almost equally advanced. Although The Fox doesn't give the name, I have a hunch it'll be Sunset ;). If I'm wrong it'll mean we'll have more to look forward too =)
Intel thinks that YOU, the computer user, are a threat to security. They are still working on their PIII ID serial, which is basically a ploy to protect the profits of Mircosoft and the likes. Aucsmith (the Intel "security artichect") makes some very disturbing comments, click here to read the ZDNET article. I smell an INTEL boycott coming on :) Thanks to Alex W. Jackson for the news.
Seems like the Playstation 2 has been confirmed today and it should be released by March, 2000. It's a rather interesting article by Nikkei Net, one of the nice things mentioned is the price which should be under 100,000 Yen (about $900 ?). Thanks to Sega X for the news
