N64 INI news: Here are some INI files that have been released in the last couple of days for various Nintendo 64 emulators:
- EmuHQ posted what they state is an "update to the official Nemu64 INI," with games added/bugs fixed. I don't see a mention of this on the official Nemu site. However, I definitely believe EmuHQ, as they are an excellent and reputible site. ;)
Barry Rodewald has released version 1.3.5 of his QPlayer. Vampire Saviour 2 sounds work correctly now. Also added is a configuration dialog, use of FIR filters, and the ability to play a sound code by pressing ENTER. For those who don't know, this will play sounds from the QSound ROMs from CPS2 titles. Since CPS2 emulation is very highly sought after but unlikely as long as the program ROMs are encrypted, this is the best we can get at the present time.

Myzar is back, his previous host doesn't like emu related content apparently. (Guess they don't like hits either.) :P Let him know if there's something you're trying to get from him and the link is broken.

About that "System16 update project"... The VGN board poster who disclosed the project, mentioned that they were working with a ROM dumper, NOT Apollo69 but according to him, someone "close" to that. Well, it's NOT Naz - I asked him. If the ROM dumper reads this (if indeed it's real), can you please email me to confirm this project? I've also emailed the poster at BOTH his emails. Fingers still crossed.

If you've noticed problems running CLRMame Pro with Raine 28g or fastscan/logfiles, try a clean install. Delete or rename your current CLRMame directory, and replace it with a new one with freshly extracted files. Delete the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/ClrMamePro. Run CLRMame Pro again and respecify your paths (remember they are all absolute) and settings.

If you downloaded the Visual Mame frontend for DOS yesterday, it did have some bugs which are now fixed in version 0.22. "Because of a nasty bug the version posted on this page did not work properly - ignored all the configuration options you have done and started with the default. So if you have downloaded on Apr 25 or Apr 26 (version 0.21) you must download again to fix the problem. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience!"

I am always hearing UK folks gripe on IRC about their connection speeds, most of our British friends are stuck on dial up, and have to pay for it (in the UK all calls cost money, even local ones). That's about to change... for £39.99 per month, BTopenworld will provide connections that are up to 20x faster than dial up.

This next story might upset Chris, our Linux 'advocate', because it looks like Microsoft isn't the only one screwing up with backdoor passwords: "An undocumented backdoor password in the Red Hat Linux Piranha package containing Linux Virtual Server (LVS) software has been discovered by Allen Wilson of the X-Force department of security outfit Internet Security Systems. Another Mame front end that's had a long history is FeMame. Atila mentioned this earlier, but I thought I'd point out that the cool thing about this front end is that it is DOS based, so you can run it in pure DOS mode. Version 2.01, compatible with Mame v36b1 to current, has had a big update, including auto support for 16 bit color, HOTROD support :), more switches, and support for Gravis GrIPs. =)

Anticupid posted a nice ROM Report for Raine .28g out at Arcade ROM Heaven, including ROMs that are new to version .28g (as opposed to .28f) and of course those elusive ROMs no one has yet. :) (Heh, we don't want to "webcopy" now do we? ;)

Using Raine 0.28g? Here's a few things to keep in mind: If you're getting jerky scrolling and unsteady framerates try turning Triple Buffers OFF - that should fix it. And if you're experiencing any problems with Sidewinders, don't be surprised. Both issues are due to the use of the latest Allegro, which does not include Antiriad's special Allegro hacks for Triple Buffer and Sidewinder fixes. Some good news is that people with PCI cards have reported they're getting sound. :) Remember to use the last OFFICIAL build, Raine 0.28f, as an alternative. DO NOT BOTHER ANTIRIAD about 0.28g, it's NOT OFFICIAL! Feel free to post any concerns/questions on our message boards. Or email complaints to Reirom... ;) Heh, j/k.

Missed last night's update of Danmanya's Emu+, now in synch with the current version of Mame at v37b1. This is basically Mame with a lot of extra and experimental features added or turned on. In this version, you can force 16 bit color in ALL games, change the CPU clock speeds without having to reset a game, autofire with variable delays, save states in Neo Geo games, and play around with different video modes like eagle and "crap tv," among other things. Pick up your copy from the homepage, and remember that this is not an official version of Mame (not supported by Mamedev).

Mame.exe is nearly 8 megs, but most archives have it at under two. How does it get so small? It's done with a utility called UPX (The Ultimate Packer for Executables), which has recently had an update to version 1.01, and also includes a source code release! I've noticed it also works well on Mame32.exe as well. :) Thanks to Katharsis for the news.

It was bound to happen. :) Spinal has released an unofficial INI version 1.1 for Corn. It looks like it includes some additional roms, but I haven't had a chance to look to closely at it.

Well, it's been posted at Emuviews now, so no point in me holding back... Please remember this is an Unofficial release. That being said, here's Raine 0.28g! Kayamon compiled this build (with Antiriad's permission) to fix a few bugs and add the new SEAL, which may result in PCI soundcards working better now. Read this for all the details. If you have a problem with this build, get the last Official release, Raine 0.28f. If you've never tried Raine before - it's one of THE greatest, fastest multiple arcade game emulators ever made. DOS only.

Ack... Well, you may have heard that an Unofficial build of Raine with some bugfixes & new SEAL may be released soon. At this point everyone is waiting for the final "go." I suspect it'll show up soon... I'm just a bit confused what to do just now. :-/
