  • Here are the first WIP pics of Wipeout 2097 for AMIGA!! Thanks to Hale-bopp for the link

  • DarkMazda has given me a compressed version of the Retrogames logo, it's now 11k instead of 22k, so it should save quite some bandwith. Let me know if it doesn't look correct or anything.

  • GLMAME32 0.35 Beta 12 released! This is a port of the Linux GLMAME, it uses OpenGL hardware acceleration to make these games look REAL good, with bilinear filtering and anti-aliasing and LOTS more! BIG thanks to Jausoft for porting this, check the GLMAME32 Site for more info and pics!

  • The Register is reporting that Nintendo has shut another site down, namely the sEMUf Site. At the moment it's not clear WHO they mailed, hopefully we'll here more about that later. I have a few words to say to Nintendo, but since this is a "family site" I'll refrain from using the multitude of four-letter words that I'm shouting while writing this update.

  • Jwbart1 mailed me about a project of his, like Shane Monroe, he's writing a Merlin Simulator!

  • Here are 2 pics of the new NEMU64 beta, one is from the Chrome demo and the other is from Ultra by Locke, both pics have wireframe 3D! Lemmy told me that the next step is filled polygons :)

  • INTEL inside ? Thanks to Darin Fontana for the pic

  • According to Nintendo's FAQ on emulation, all roms are illegal, so we expect NINTENDO to sue CAPCOM for licensing the CAPCOM to the HotRod people

  • HOTROD LIVES!! Richard Ragon has announced that their HOTROD Arcade Joystick is now ready and orders are being taken! Every HotRod will come with a special version of MAME, the Arcade@Home frontend and 100% LEGAL CAPCOM ROMS, all I can say is WOW!! Capcom has allowed Hanaho to ship roms with this Joystick, which is an excellent move on CapCom's part. There are 2 versions available of Hotrod, one selling for $179,95 and the other for $199,95. Click here for the full press release

  • System16 is now open source!! Thierry has released the source to System16, the excellent Sega Arcade Game emulator, all is available except the StarScream 68k core. Thanks to JoseQ for the news

  • Magic Engine news: Deej of Emu24X is reporting that Magic Engine (PCE/TG16 emu) is now a WIN32 emu utilizing DirectX and has FULL SuperGrafx emulation, aswell as lots of new features. Also, Magic Engine *MIGHT* be released as freeware, although it's worth EVERY penny it's charged for.

  • Quick news round-up: The Moonlit Coalition has posted some news regarding the drivers they'll be using in the future for use with Sunset. 1964, the open source N64 emulator, has been updated to version 0.13, no major new things, but worth a download anyway. Pretendo news: SMB3 is working on Pretendo and a kickass GUI is in the works, also Pretendo64 (N64 emu) is being worked on but it's not more than a REALLY good debugger right now. Thanks to EV and ES for the newsbits

  • Hasbro Interactive has unveiled its 1999 arcade line-up: PONG - MISSILE COMMAND and Q*BERT are ALL getting the 3D treatment (3D pong ?!). • I've just tried the new PSEmu beta, man it's awesome!! One thing that the coder changed BIGTIME is the compatibility rate, it's almost 80% now!! Sound is awesome, graphics are awesome and it's even smaller than the current public release. I will DEFINATELY donate something, this emulator is definately worth it. I *REALLY* hope that this will get a public release soon (hey, isn't there an anniversary coming up soon ??) so you will all be able to enjoy it. I just hope that people won't ask for a refund @ bleem.com if this gets released =) Thanks again to Deej for "mediating", you rock!!

  • Here are a few pics of the Electronic Arts booth at E3, click on "BIGGEST CROWD AT E3" and you might spot someone whose emus you've played a LOT. According to Zophar, he might be next to the dude with the sign, then again there are a huge amount of people next to that one dude :)

  • David Herpolsheimer of bleem! has been interviewed by people of AGN while at the E3, click here to view the Realvideo stream. The stream is 80 kbps, so if you're connected at 33k6 or something, you won't be able to view it the way it should be viewed. Thanks to EmuSphere for the link.

  • Emu24X is reporting about a new version of PSEmu Pro, version 2.0! A new anonymous author has stepped in and continued PSEmu Pro, PSEmu has a new dynarec R3000 core which is AT LEAST twice as fast as the old one. This means SPEED!!! MDEC is now sooooooo smooth, it's ridiculous :) There is just one problem, the author is SERIOUSLY thinking of NOT releasing this publically and you can't really blame the guy. PSEmu was the first PSX emu, with great 3D hardware support, 100% freeware, runs several games with PERFECT sound and PERFECT fps, yet noone ever donated ONE DOLLAR to this emulator. 20,000+ people did shell out $20+ for bleem! and most were disappointed. Deej of Emu24X is a PSEmu Pro beta tester and has the alpha version. He will probably post MPGs and pics of PSEmu Pro 2.0 later today.

  • Telekawaru has some serious trouble at home, so he won't be able to work on SNES9x for a while, here's what he had to say:
I don't know how much longer I will be able to go online from my house. My step-father (The drunken @$$hole) decided that I don't need an ISP or a phone line. Today he tried to stop me from going online by ripping some wires from my phone jack, but I guess he thinks I'm an idiot and wouldn't know how to put it back together. He'll be pissed about that. In any even, I will probably end up moving into a friend's house for awhile. I'll be able to get online there. So, hopefully, if I am banned from the internet for awhile, it will only be very temporary. See ya.
Very sad news indeed, I hope your situation gets better soon. Thanks to News-U-Lator for the news

  • This next article made me chuckle, according to CNN, Disney has removed all of the violent video games from its theme park acrades. A Disney spokesman was quoted saying: "It's not an indictment of the industry -- this is just not the place for violent video games." Hmm, if I'm not mistaken some of the Disney cartoons contain a fair amount of violence. It's overreacting, that's what it is. Pretty soon we'll see trying to shoot other people who will then say that "all the cuteness made me do it!". I wonder who they will sue then, chances are Disney because they are the "mother of all that is cute", heh :)

  • Microsoft is asking for a wh00ping -- a BIG one! They are backing legislation which basically sucks for you, the US consumer. Article 2B, as it's known, absolves software producers from virtually all liability for their products. Even if it's shipped with a virus, doesn't match a demo, is just plain defective or so bug-ridden it's unusable, US customers will have no right of redress. Nice huh ??

  • Snes9x 1.19 w/GUI for DOS released!!

  • EmuHQ is hosting a Sega Saturn emulator called MyTurn, it doesn't do much yet, but a new release should be up by next week with controller support and partial implementation of CPU processing. N.B. I've removed the download link, this is probably another hoax of some sort. The MyTurn page says that work on the CPU core will begin next week, but one of the testers is saying that NiGHTS already works?! Yet the coders (of all people!!) can't confirm it, it would seem to me that the coders would know what it emulates at this stage. I suggest to everyone that has downloaded it, to delete it. Thanks to Zophar for the eye-opener :)

  • It's not what you would expect, although the logo is quite a rip-off! Oh, you're wondering what I'm talking about: www.streetfighter.com. Thanks to RGuile for the link

  • MacMAME 0.35 Beta 12a released! This release fixes a few bugs and adds some new things, which you can read here. Thanks to Richard Bannister for the news

  • Noticed lots of confusion over KBMAME's neogeo.drv. Here is a complete neogeo.drv with all the latest drivers needed for KBMAME v.9. You MUST rename your Last Blade 2 to lastbld2.zip. Hopefully this will help others who need it. NOTE: The quizkof driver contains a v3 loading fix from Deimos - so you might want to download it anyway, or read this from our NeoGeo board.

  • Phozon (Namco 1983) coming to MAME! Here are some pics thanks to Emulatronia.

  • Raine has added one more game, namely OMEGA FIGHTER by UPL, a coooooool vertical shooter! And of course, if you are a regular reader of Retrogames, you'll know that there are 2 more games in the RAINE GUI to chose from now: PUZZNIC and Atomic Robo-Kid. We reported about this about 3 weeks ago :)

  • Ultimate Gaming Resource has put up a list of things on how to get to the E3 by air or land travel, what places to see in the Los Angeles area, where to eat, where to stay; the list goes on and on! If you're going there, this page is a MUST visit!!

Money, that will be donated to HIV/AIDS research, click here to read. Thanks to Darin Fontana for the link

  • WinUAE 0.8.8 R4 released! I guess it's time to use my news catcher or something, because this was released a week ago. This Amiga emulator for WIN9x/NT has received another fine update, click here to see what's new. Thanks to wook and J|nX for the news.

  •   Saturday, May 8th 1999 - Last updated @ 22:48 CET

  • Richard Bannister has released a bugfix of HU6280 for the MAC, version 1.8.9v2.

  • More on TRWIN, it's confirmed that it is in fact real. BUT it will NEVER be released to the public, it's a private project. The pics weren't supposed to be released, from what I've heard. TRWIN was based on True Reality, but was completely rewritten and then it was decided to go private. If I get anymore info, I'll post what I can. I got my info from a MAJOR source in N64 emulation.

  • HiVE 1.02 released! This speedy WIN32 multi arcade game emulator has been updated again, now adding support for GROBDA and quite a few fixes (read here). Check the HiVE Site for more info, thanks to JoseQ for the news

  • Pete Bernert has just released version 1.10 of his TNT OpenGL plugin for use with PSEmu Pro. Thanks to EmuSphere for the news

  • I've received some info that the TRWIN/WAVE RACE thingie is a big hoax. I'm trying to gather as much info that I can, info that I'm allowed to publish. From what I've seen, those screenshots do NOT come from TRWIN as far as I'm concerned.

  • Sir Clive Sinclair has set his sights on a portable Linux machine, which should cost less than half the price of a comparable WINTEL machine. Sir Clive Sinclair was responsible for the ZX-81 and the Spectrum to name but two. Thanks to Richard Bannister for the link

  • The FCC has made a small mistake on its mailing list :-) Thanks to DMUltra for the link

  •   Friday, May 7th 1999 - Last updated @ 23:29 CET

  • Emu+ 0.35 Beta 11 released! This is a special version of MAME, it combines a few of those homemade alterations (like AFmame, OCMAME) into one product. Should make things easier :) So, this release has AUTOFIRE and allows all CPUs to be overclocked on a "PER CPU" basis. A WIN32 version is expected soon and new version will be released soon all based on beta 12 sources. Speaking of sources, here's the source for this release. Check the homepage for more info

  • I received a mail today about the Speak and Spell Simulator and it's one of the nicest mails about emulators I've ever received, here's a snippet: .... I just went out and bought one for my daughter after seeing the homepage. I forgot all about that thing! She can use the one I bought her in the car and the one I download tomorrow on the PC! ....

  • Small bit of MAMEWIP news: Bryan McPhail, Oliver Bergmann and Randy Mongenel have added RAIDEN to MAME!!!!

  • SYSTEM16 0.80 DX released! This is Bartman's last release of the SYSTEM16 WIN32 port, he will no longer be maintaining the WIN32 port, because he has deleted the source by accident. This is what was left, it's kinda like an almost like an almost finished beta, but it is good enough :) Thanks to JoseQ for the news.

  • More MESS news!! Yep, the MESS WIP Page has been updated with news and pics of a PCE/TG-16 driver written by Charles MacDonald. Charles has also rewritten the SMS driver, so head on over the the MESS Site and check it out!

  • Ricardo Bittencourt (author of BrSMS/MSX) has released his PARROT graphics enhancer. PARROT makes the games look better, because it uses 32,000 colors instead of 32 :) You can now download the source code for this and use it in your own emulator! Thanks to JoseQ for the news

  • It's true, QUAKE 3 makes kids more violent!! Thanks to m0ebius for the link

  • Dragonyen has posted a long rant about the current ongoings with bleem!, the PSX emulator. It does make a lot of sense, and to be honest, I feel sorry for the way the bleem! team has been treated lately. It may even be their fault, but let's not forget that Win95 (for isntance) was like 3 years late or something and full of bugs. See, the thing is that once bleem! is released, all those people complaining will probably go "WOW!!!!", those people better NOT say anything.

  • Sonikku_a has posted a #bleem log from yesterday, when the CEO of bleem!, LLC entered. The log is a bit messy (like IRC ;) but you get the point.

  • You ever wanted to buy an arcade machine, maybe one of those cool pinball machines or even a LaserDisc game ? Well, now you can thanks to Arcade Warehouse!

  • I wonder who has the worst job ;)

  • Nemu64 has expanded once again, hWnd (who wrote GL²IDE) has joined the team and will rewrite the Direct3D engine, which should result in a speedup. Some 2D games will work, like Mortal Kombat Trilogy and NBA Hangtime and perhaps a few more (pretty dark on that rift eh ?) The HLE part of Nemu64 can be turned off/on during gameplay, so you can see the speed difference pretty well. A release should follow soon enough, so don't bother the authors about a release date. Oh, the the release AFTER that release will let you play 3D games ;)

  • MacMAME 0.35 Beta 12 released, click here to read what's new! Thanks to Gilles for the news

  • And as you probably noticed, there was no bleem! release last night. Reasons for the delay are listed at bleem! site, they will give refunds to those who want it.

  • Doug Lowenstein for once does something good. There was a meeting yesterday in the Senate about violence and videogames and Doug Lowenstein of the IDSA, was one of the few that stood up for videogames and focussed more on the parents, since the parents buy the pricey games. Nofadz.com has put a page with "who said what" and even Realaudio files of what they said. Some of the things said are so ludicrous, you'd start to think if these people actually know what a videogame is. Thanks to Cable|guy for the news

  • Neocharity has released Last Blade 2 !!

  • MESS Site moves to Emuverse! After a 5 month hiatus, the MESS project (kinda like MAME, but for console systems) is back with 2 new systems added to the project: the Enterprise 128K and the Amstrad CPC 6128. Both the new drivers are being developed by Kevin Thacker, the author of Arnold (CPC/CPC+ emu). 2 pictures are available at the MESS Site of these "new" systems

  • Bleem! (the Playstation emulator) will be released in about 5 hours from now (21:30 CET) and chances are that 5 minutes after its release there will be a zillion sites offering a cracked/hacked version of bleem!. Please, DO NOT download these files, as they will most likely be virus/BO infected and might end up destroying your system. It is NOT worth the trouble!

  • Ooh, this is nice (sorta ;). This is a Virtual Dog Sh*t Creator, if you're not good at math, your doodie will probably generate an error :) Thanks to whoever sent me the link, I've lost your mail!!

  • J-ROM has released Quiz King of Fighters, a Japanese-only (I think) NeoGeo game around 8mb zipped! The file appears difficult to download however...

  • RAGE team are rockin' the NeoGeo emulation world yet again - here's the latest NeoRAGEx version 0.5c!!! This update fixes many problems with games lacking sound, adds autofire, more Shotfactory options and various tweaks and fixes. Thanks Janne and Anders!

  • I'm feeling a bit sick (must be this good weather!), so if Prophet reads this, feel free to update :-)

  • I've added a new board, for discussion about current affairs like the Nato Attacks on Serbia or the school shootings. If you are wondering why Retrogames should allow such a board, it's because there's a need for a board like this on this site. I hope this makes the general messageboard a bit cleaner :)

  • I wonder if someone actually did this :) Thanks to Shih Tzu for the link

  • New TrueReality for Linux released! For some reason, the file cannot be downloaded from my site, so click here to read what's new and download the file. Thanks to Coolbest for the news

  • Not really emulation related, but still. Beta News is reporting that Microsoft has released Service Pack 5 For Windows NT4! Time to install this I suppose :)

  • Speak and Spell Simulator! Yep, one of the machines still on everyone's list is finally here (well, almost ;)! This thing works like the real machine and even sounds the same, although I'm not sure the latter part is good ;) The beta I've tried is pretty amazing and it should be released right here @ Retrogames in a few days, maybe sooner. Depends on how soon the subdomain starts to work :)

  • This is day 5 of this nice weather, I have this feeling that we will get one week of rain for every nice day we've had =)

  • This is what I get for being human ... at times :) It's a tad late, but it's here: DarcNES 05.01, the NES/SMS/GENESIS (not quite)/PCE emulator for Unix. There's an X11 version and an SVGAlib version. You can edit the makefile and compile a DOS version yourself :)

  • The following site has a really cool "RETRO Design", it's modelled completely like an Amiga with workBench 1.3 :) Although it's in German, it's not too difficult to navigate and if you look around, you'll see some Amiga roms for download too :) Click here to see the site

  • ClrMAME 1.36 released! Roman Scherzer said that this will be the last release for a while, since he will be implementing some new features. Those features will take quite some time. Anyway, this release fixed the PIGNEWTON bug and adds a bit more protection. ClearMAME is a MAME rom manager.

  • BWAHAHAHA!! Nintendo has a FAQ on its site concerning emulation, ROMS and piracy and NINTENDO once again shows that they think that THEY make the rules. One of the questions in the faq is the following:
Does Nintendo Think Emulation Companies Promote Piracy? Why?
Yes. The only purpose of video game emulators are to play illegal copied games from the Internet.

WRONG! I know for a fact that there are CERTAIN developers out there for various consoles, that use the emulators to test out the game. HAH! Emulators are also used by people at home who code their own games/demos and play/use them on the emulators, since they cannot burn an EEPROM. Here's another one:
Are all ROMS on the Internet Illegal?
Yes. All ROMs available on the Internet are unauthorized and infringing copies of copyrighted works.

WOOOOOHAHAHAH!! NINTENDO seems to forget that some roms are in the public domain and others have gotten the author's permission to be freely distributed. Let's not forget the homebrewn roms, eh ? They also complain about UltraHLE and how it is violating some copyrights and circumvents their anti-piracy security system. To this I have one thing to say: Either you show us what it is violating or you NEVER EVER mention that again! Click HERE to read this ridiculous FAQ. Thanks to DarkMazda's Domain for the link

  • Here's a patch to make Fatal Fury 3 work again in MAME 0.35 Beta 12. Thanks to Mason for the file.

  • Dgen 1.0 released! The author of DTMNT strikes again, this time with an Genesis/Megadrive emulator for WIN32. He said it works in WIN95/98 but it also works on my NT4 setup (with the DX5 beta). It's not on the level of Genecyst or Kgen98, but it's all you're gonna get and it ain't that shabby (for now ?). The author of DGen, DTMNT (and the future DTMNT2) has had his partitiontable corrupted by Windows NT4.0. If you believe you may be able to help, please read the second text file included with DGen for a description of the problem. His email address is dayvee@rocketmail.com. Click here to go to the Dgen Site

Thanks to gamb|t for the news
